What causes your tinnitus to get worse?
« on: November 10, 2011, 08:12:58 pm »
I was diangnosed with my AN in July of 2010, had no symptoms, I have NF-1 and an optic glioma that I get yearly MRI's for.  Tinnitus started very sporadically last November (so just a year ago).  It is now almost constant.  I find that it gets worse when I am stressed.  My vision is not good, and I have trouble driving (not to mention that I am a very nervous driver).  I find that a lot of the times my tinnitus gets very loud when I drive.
Right side AN diagnosed 7/10 - 6.1 mm x 7.8 mm
1st follow-up MRI 1/10/11 - 0.9 x 0.3 x 0.4 cm
2nd follow-up MRI 7/11/11 - 1.0 x 0.7 x 0.6 cm
Follow-Up 12/20/11 - no noticeable change
MRI 11/26/12 - .5x1.0x.6 cm
MRI 10//21/13 - 0.8 x 1.0 x 0.7
Some hearing loss AN side and tinnitus
NF1 & optic glioma

Stress and fatigue kicks tinnitus up for me.  And loud noises, my screaming 5 year old, loud music or even a large group of people.  But especially stress.  It seems to me that cortisol and adrenaline aggrevate the AN.  I'm taking holy basil which is supposed to reduce cortisol (the stress hormone) levels and I think it is helping.  I've also eliminated wheat and dairy from diet and take turmeric, reservatrol, an anti-stress herbal formula with the holy basil.  Have my next MRI in January.

Hope this helps.
Wait & Watch
1st Symptom Temporary SHL 7/10 AN Diagnosed via MRI 4/14/11
AN Size 4/14/11 = 1.4cm x 1.8cm x 1.7cm
AN size 7/14/11 = Same - Stable, no growth
AN Size 2/01/12 = 1.3cm x 1.3cm x 1.6cm (5mm reduction)
AN Size 11/27/12 = less than a centimeter! (50% reduction! And I can still hear!)

Constant  noise like at a loud restaurant drives mine nuts. Now my tinnitus is on going 24 /7 . it never goes down. But it really hums when in that location or when i am very tired.
