I have just been diagnosed and am hoping to get information on surgeons in the Alabama area. So far I have been referred to an Otolaryngologist at UAB. Not sure where I am heading and what is in store. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

Hi and welcome to our little "club" that no one wants to have to be a member,, but this is a great forum for friends and info!!!
I just had my translab surgery at UAB and otolaryngologist was Benjamin McGrew and neurosurgeon was Winfield Fisher,, both of whom were wonderful. UAB is a huge facility and very well respected in the area. PM me if you want more info..not sure what part of state you are in but from Birmingham South, it is the best facility, I believe after checking around. Both Drs. practice at the Kirklin Clinic, it is huge also,, and right next door to hospital. If you need a hotel, be sure to ask for the "hospital discount" at downtown hotels,, it'll save you some money! good luck to you and I will help in any way I can... keep us posted...Jane

Thank you so much Alabamajane. The information and support is so very appreciated. This is so new to me I had to look up translab. I originally went to an orthopeadic surgeon for neck pain (turned out to be mild arthritis, but the AN was a ...."but we found something else". I am scheduled on Jan 31 at UAB with a Dr. Scott Magnusun. I have been researching. He is in the Kirklin Clinic also. I am hopeful but scared. I am in Eufaula so it is 3 hours away. I am sure there will be various tests and more labwork involved before any surgery takes place. My AN is 3.2cm, 2.7cm, 4.7cm so it falls into the large category. I have been relatively symptom free thankfully, only a couple of episodes of momentary hearing loss opposite of the AN side and some lightheadedness that I thought was a hypoglycemic attack :-/. I will keep you posted. Thanks again. Have a great day.

Glad to offer any help I can,, Kirklin Clinic is huge with many Drs ,, I don't know any of them except Dr McGrew and Fisher, they operated as a team on me and were awesome. You tumor is somewhat larger than mine was, but I had nothing but good experiences with the entire hospital.. if I can be of further help just let me know. It is a difficult situation to be in, for sure, but many of us have traveled the same road you are going down. I found out about mine about same way you did,, neurologist visit for seizure and MRI showed brain tumor, "oh by the way,,,,",,, There are free booklets you can order from this website if you have not already which contain very useful info on these tumors.. good luck in your research and journey and let me know if you need anything.
