LakeErie - THANK YOU! ;D (I know that capitals is yelling but wanted you to hear it  :))  You have given me hope.

I saw the ENT specialist today and he said that he should have used some kind of instument (he did say the name of it but I've forgotten) to move the vagus nerve but had decided that he would be far enough away from it to not irritate it. He was a little bit incorrect.  :P

He did the-camera-down-the-nose-and-throat thing today and said he saw movement of the vocal cord!  A lot less swelling as well.  He's got me in to see a speech pathologist at the John Hunter in Newcastle (Australia) next week as I need to be taught how to swallow properly so I stop getting it into my lungs.  This will involve moving my head a certain way.

His prognosis is that I should be talking within a year.  I hope so.

Doc said he could do a small op on it and I said "No more surgeries. Mick (hubby) can learn sign language" :)
That made the doc laugh. Mick's look was precious.

As for what happened to my face swelling up? - He has no idea but it's back to normal and he wants me to give the antibiotics another week as added precaution.

So on it goes. We're all still living and learning and that's a good outcome.

Lovenhugs to everyone

You are welcome. I just posted on the thread above this one that I spoke to my surgeon's office yesterday about my throat complications and I was reminded that cranial nerves take 12 to 18 months to heal and regenerate to the extent they are capable of. The fact I have improvement in the early months is a good indication that further increased function will follow. It is good news in my opinion that your swelling is down and there is vocal cord movement. i know you think that, too. Good luck.

Would you mind updating your status the more your voice gets back to normal please?  It gives me some sort of time-line to look at and hope for.

Thanks again everyone
