Jack,

This just in my train club  association (TCA) membership dues just had a whopping $15 dollar a year increase! They have been in existence since 1952. I have been a member since 2010. They  have not had a dues increase in 6 years. This is (membership in the ANA) is worth far more than any association of geeks (like myself) who's hobby it is to collect toy trains.

Just to put it all in perspective.....

Dues for Canada members $25 higher than US members.

I take it back. Take me seriously.

I'm reviving this thread because I just found out that Canadian members pay $70 dues while we in the US pay $45.

What's that all about?

Does it take $25 worth of postage to send mail from the US to Canada?

Did ANA have to hire specialists to address envelopes mailed to Canada?

Jack, count me in as a Canadian who would like some kind of explanation.  I paid $60.00 last year and was warned the dues would be increasing.  Imagine my surprise this year at the $70.00 rate!!!  As for stamps....the only mailing I receive is for my membership renewal.  I access all Newsletters on-line, so there must be some other explanation.

I have no issue paying more (within reason) for a US based service, when it provides me with something I benefit from, but I'd sure like to understand this one!

Just as an added point of interest, according to the Bank of Canada exchange rate for today, I will have to spend $76.21 Canadian to pay for my $70.00 ANA Membership.    :(

ANA is a valuable resource but it's not the only one. There is a limit to how much gouging people will take before they give up and find other resources.

I, for one, will be gone at the next dues increase.

That won't make much of a dent in ANA's coffers but over 800 people have read this thread and that would be a big dent if those people balk at being gouged.

How bout a senior discount ??
Just curious, is access to this forum contingent on paying the dues?

Hi Jeanne,

A senior discount is another excellent idea!

I believe you can access and read forum posts without being a paid member, but if you want to post and contact others, then you need to take out a membership.  If I'm wrong, hopefully someone will tell me but I seem to remember that wanting to post and communicate with others was the main reason I took out the membership.

You can register and participate in the forums without being a paid member.

I just successfully signed up on another computer with a different user name, password and IP address.

It does my heart good to know that I keep you amused.

A radiologist, a neurosurgeon, and an otologist walk into a bar.
The bartender looks at them and says, "Is this a joke"?

I've got a million of 'em.

Hi Jack,

Haven't been on in sooooo long, it's good to know you are keeping things lively!!

Between March and June I have been to Florida with my aging Dad who broke 7 ribs on some stairs outside his home on  March 10.
After a Hospital stay and a short term stay in one of the local nursing homes in the Naples area. He enjoyed it better at home! Securing 24 hour care for him has been something of a task since my mother who's living with him seems to discourage it.

After Father's Day this year she is going to move him back to live in our family owned Nursing Home in Staten Island which is good at least I work there and can keep a watchful eye on him and ensure that he gets the best of care.

Glad to see that you are the Gaurdian of the Humor! I could use a good joke!

I actually laughed out loud at your bartender joke.

Then again, I'm Irish.

Some things in my life need to matter less, and other things in my life need to matter more.  So yes, I'm taking this as a "lesson learned experience."
