More AN's on East side of the US?? hmmmmmmm??
« on: September 14, 2006, 09:05:48 am »
I was looking at the map on the frapper.com site, Thought it kinda weird that most of the posted patients are on the East side.
Wonder what that's all about. More hazards in the esstern states that could bring on the AN??  very interesting!!!

I've noticed that too .. its a small sampling, but I would guess the population is higher on the Best, I mean East coast .. so the AN rate will be higher... and the sides are basicly the same .. flip of a coin as to which side your AN will be ..

I just found frapper and put my AN on the map! I'm in the middle (dallas) so i guess I don't get a side.  I used to live in Calif. so I think Ill take that side.

Just further proof what coast is really the best!  :o

I'm wondering if it's just because the east is more densely populated than the west (no, I did not imply the east is more populated with people who are dense...he he he!).

I am so NOT touching that! :)

I have to agree about the population of East US vs. West US...

Hey Joe,

Maybe we can call it the "beast" coast. West is best, east is beast!! I probably shouldn't have said that but it's funny.
Laura Ingraham, the talk show host, used to refer to the west coast as the "left" coast - in a political sense.
Hey, at least we don't have the San Andreas Fault, or the Northern Pacific ring of fire to worry about!

Maybe we're being poisoned by rampant industrialism and urban blight on the beast coast. Or maybe we can refer to the west coast as "bestial" instead of simply best. That way, we're even! Best being the diiminutive of "bestial".

How's that for poetic licentiousness!!

The east coast of the U.S. is not only heavily populated and has lots of hospitals, doctors, sophisticated medical diagnosis equipment (such as MRI scanners) but, most importantly, a lot of folks who are well-insured and are not afraid to use the available physicians and medical facilities.  That would help explain the high number of AN cases in the eastern section of the nation.

I am one AN 'survivor' (see my signature) who rejects the notion that Acoustic Neuroma tumors can be caused by enviromental hazards, cell phones, exposure to loud music and so on.  These kinds of tumors were noted and operated on by surgeons (usually unsuccessfully and with a dead patient as a result)  over a century ago and that fact blows away many of the somewhat fanciful attempts at 'explaning' their cause, in my view.

My opinion?  Glad you asked!  Genetic.
4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Hey, we're not exactly the boondocks over here!  We have more than just coffee and computer nerds!!!  We have some very highly rated hospitals/doctors, and we've got CK/GK too!!!!  Suddenly I have the urge to run out and stick a piece of wheatgrass in my teeth.......

I do agree with you on genetics.  I like the screwy gene answer.

Gennysmom,

Boondocks??? Thought that was where I was, here, in of all places, Utah.  Spent the first 30 yr of life on the coast of Calif, so I m a true WEST COASTER.  Still a Lefty Westy of the country though.
Wow, kinda wondered if this thread would stir up the battle of the coasts.  Yes I'm sure there is no enviornmental reason for the higher number, but like said, the denser population (lol) would be the reason, (meaning the more densly poupulated area).

So glad we can poke fun on this forum

OK..........  we had  a thread wiht MRI pics of who had the bigest, So now do we need to start a new thread on who's got/ or had, the coolest AN?? LOL!!!
Maybe we could post pics and compare scars. The beastie coast would win cuz they'd have more entries.

More silliness?
