Acoustic Neuroma Size
« on: April 21, 2014, 08:01:30 pm »
Hi.. In regards to an MRI report if it states the AN tumor is 2.5 cm x 2.4 cm x 1.8 cm, does this imply the width, length and depth. (these are not my husbands accurate numbers, as I don't have the report sitting here near me). We cannot remember if we asked the neurosurgeon or not. Thank you

Hi Kathy and welcome you and your husband to our little club.  Yes, those are the dimensions of his tumor, as it is not exactly perfectly round.  This depends on where it is located, like mine for instance it was in the IAC, so it was crammed in there, like filling up a penne noodle or something! :)  Good luck as you do your reseach and make sure you take advantage of the free info the ANA organization has.  Go the the main ANA website and follow the links for new patient info.  Take care!

Hi.. In regards to an MRI report if it states the AN tumor is 2.5 cm x 2.4 cm x 1.8 cm, does this imply the width, length and depth.

Could be, but might not be. I know that's not helpful but the following might be.

My AN is shaped a little like a Tic-Tac, longer than the other two dimensions and was measured as follows on my MRI report.

1.2cm transverse (that's the long dimension and runs parallel to the nerve).
.4cm AP (anteriorposterior - I believe that's the horizontal dimension).
.6 cm CC (craniocaudal - the vertical dimension).

You'll have to look at the radiologist's report to see what terms he used to describe the dimensions and in which order he wrote them.
3/15/18 12mm x 6mm x5mm
9/21/16 12mm x 7mm x 5mm
3/23/15 12mm x 5.5mm x 4mm
3/13/14 12mm x 6mm x 4mm
8/1/13 14mm x 5mm x 4mm (Expected)
1/22/13 12mm x 3mm (Gamma Knife)
10/10/12 11mm x 4mm x 5mm
4/4/12 9mm x 4mm x 3mm (Diagnosis)
