Question about post-translab sealed ear.
« on: October 15, 2014, 01:28:09 pm »
I had all but a few stitches removed by my local ENT some weeks after my translab removal of my cochlea and vestibular area. He said to "keep the area clean and dry" until I see him for the final stitches in a few weeks, but also to not touch the area and to be as gentle as possible around it.

This is my question: black crud is accumulating in the area, scab-like material. It was flaking off practically on its own. Does 'cleaning the area' include removing that stuff? I don't know how thorough I'm allowed to be and wonder if anyone else had this experience with some insight.

I didn't have that experience, but you should call your ENT and ask him or her about it.  No sense wondering and worrying when a phone call can most likely answer your question and relieve any doubt or concern.  Good luck.

Translab completed November 2012 at House Clinic
SSD; numbness on face and in mouth, plus poor taste buds, but happy with how I am doing so far

I shampooed my hair about a week after surgery, being very careful around the stitches, and also being very careful to blow dry it completely. I have had no ill effects.
