Intraventricular drain side effects

Hi,
On behalf of my wife. ...
When my wife was young she suffered a sever bled which resulted in a large void in her head now filled with 2 large cysts and fluid.
Recently she had been  suffering increasingly sever headaches due to high  pressure fluctuations.
She is facing the option of having a drain placed between the cysts  / void and  the spinal area. This is just opening up a hole / path between the 2 areas, not introducing  any foreign objects into her head.

My question is  has anyone had similar surgery  and know of the probable side effects?
I have looked for information on the Web but it is sparse or to technical for us.

She would also have titanium mesh placed to cover a large hole on her skull and I see this has been discussed in length on this forum which has been very helpful.
