One year ago today. . .
« on: May 09, 2017, 09:50:08 am »
there was a hole in my skull.  I had middle fossa surgery at the University of Iowa for a 1.2 cm VS.  One year later, things are great.  I can do pretty much whatever I want.  My balance is still not perfect, but it keeps improving and its never so much of a problem that I can't do something. Long bike rides; long drives; baseball with my kids; racquetball. I will have one year follow up MRI in early June, which will hopefully confirm good news.  It has not always been easy.  I've dealt with some anxiety, I have some problems with my eye getting blurry in the cold.  But, overall I'm extremely fortunate.  In the first few months I posted on here a lot, but then I stopped because I found it sometimes contributed to my anxiety, and there are a lot of people trying to justify their preferred treatment modality.  I also made some nice connections, especially with people who had surgery around the same time I did.  I have never regretted my choice and I look forward to a relatively normal life.

Middle fossa surgery at University of Iowa on May 9 2016.
Hearing saved.  Face is fine. Balance pretty darn good most days.
One year follow up MRI showed no tumor.
Five year follow up showed no tumor, so I'm in the clear.

Thanks for the update!
My surgery was 7 weeks ago today.  Still dealing with some dizziness, but it's good to hear that these things can continue to improve, even over the course of a year.  When I get better enough we'll have to play some racquetball :)

Update: I had my one year follow up MRI this week and everything was clear.  I don't have to go back for four years!  So happy!
