After having gotten so much from this forum to help prepare me when I was diagnosed with an AN three and a half years ago, and for subsequent surgery two years ago, I want to share about my wonderful surgical team.
I live in Indiana but traveled to Vanderbilt University Medical Center based on the reputation, expertise and experience at the Skull Base Center there. My physicians were Alejandro Rivas and Reid Thompson. They were great in reviewing my case with my wife and me and in laying out my treatment options. I had translabyrinthine surgery for my 1.1cm tumor because I had lost nearly all hearing on my right side at that point. My surgery went off exactly as they described it; and my recovery went well with lots of effort in the vestibular physical therapy. I had a hiking vacation in Yosemite 7 weeks later with friends that went without a hitch (I hadn't planned it to be so close but circumstances landed it there and I was cautious).
I just hit my two year surgery anniversary and just got an all-clear on my latest brain MRI.
I'm so grateful and fortunate to have connected with these surgeons and couldn't recommend them more highly.
