« on: August 20, 2020, 12:27:10 pm »
I am at the 14 year mark after successful GK treatment. I just had a recent MRI, said to return for another MRI in 3 years.
I am 65 years old.....how long are follow up MRIs necessary.
2 cm AN diagnosed April 2006
Gamma Knife August 2006
Dr. Lunsford, University of Pittsburgh

Have you talked with your doctor?

Yours is a loaded question because, as every patient's journey “treatment..post-surgical-recovery…new-normal” is different, so are many “this-is-the-end-of-my-follow-up” experiences.

I have my own experience.

So to answer your question, please think about this....

How do you feel about the follow up? Are you comfortable with how it's going?

Do you feel you would be more comfortable if they were more or less often?

So I ask you again? Have you talked with your doctor?

Wishing you the best.

I’m 3 years post op. The neurosurgeon said MRI with and without annually for life I felt that was excessive given the slow growth of AN, post op outcome (100% resection) lack of recurrence after 3 yrs, and expense and toll of contrast on kidney health.  So my PCP and I are coming up with our own schedule based on what we believe is reasonable given my circumstances and the literature. So I’ve been annual until now. Then I will go 2 years and reevaluate with the idea of getting to once every 5 years.
