Supplements / vitamins i personally use.
« on: December 29, 2022, 05:11:15 am »
Hi Every one.

I wanted to write this and keep everyone updated on what happens, maybe something good will come from it, and its nice to keep track of my own progression  i'm going to leave a list of supplements i personally use. I'm not a doctor, this is NOT medical advice as far as i know nothing of the supplements have been proven to work yet, talk to your doctor first

I did my own researching and made a list of potential helpful supplements, i have no idea if they can be mixed or have adverse affects when taken together, if you have more knowledge about some things cant be used together please do let me know!

When diagnosed (11 November 2022)  i weighed in at 112 kG / 247 LBS my length is 2 meter / 6.6 feet
After diagnose i stopped smoking and stopped drinking alcohol(only reserved for special occasions now).

My current weight is 107 KG / 235 LBS. i started walking 5 KM / 3 miles a day.

As for drinks, I've been sticking mainly to:
-Water
-Green tea, either with ginger or lemon.

As for foods:
Mainly cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, brusselsprouts etc.

- 10% full spectrum CBD
- Aswagandha
- Curcumine
- Magnesium B6 L-Tryptophan
- Omega 3
- Sulforaphane, because of the low dossage in capsules i also try eating 100 grams of broccolli sprouts with them (+ the cruciferous  food which contain them naturally)
- Bio30 / propolis
- 5MG melatonin  (couple of hours before sleep)
- 2x baby aspirin, 1 in morning one in evening
- PEA Palmitoylethanolamide
- Vitamin D3+K2
- Vitamin B12
- Bromelaine
- Boswellia
- Resveratrol
- Quercetin
- berberine
- 1 Ibuprofen before sleeping 400MG

I Follow the label, some i take twice a day  most of them just once a day i try not to surpass the daily recommended dosage.

Diagnosis 11 november 2022  40mm cystic AN
Symptoms in november include

- 45 Db hearing loss left ear
- Stabbing headache AN side head
- Throbbing pressure headache in the back of my head when crouching down and standing back up or after lifting something heavy (occurs not during the lifting but right after i let go of the heavy object and the pressure in my head goes back to normal)
- Tinnitus
- slight dizziness (especially when going from standing to a laying down position or tilting my head sideways to the AN side.)

29 December 2022 First month after taking supplements.

Symptoms that went away/ became noticeably less

- Tinnitus got less noticeable, only at night at complete silence i still hear it softly. Sometimes during the day i try to focus on it and cant even hear it.
- Stabbing pain at AN side is completely gone for a few weeks now, same for the ear pain.

Symptoms still here

- Headache in back of my head, Neurologist is going to check it but they thought it might be stress related. (update will follow)
- Hearing-loss will always remain so i will not be writing about it unless it gets remarkably worse or miraculously better , got a appointment for a hearing aid in January
-Dizziness, this one comes and goes.

Currently in watch and wait, next MRI is May 2023 I will post a monthly update about symptoms that came/ went away.
and will update the list of used supplements if there is any chance.

In may i will update you with the MRI Results.

Thank you, davebanninga, for sharing what supplements you use personally.  It sounds like you and Michele Watto are both helpful resources for nutrition and vitamins.

I only take about 1/4th the supplements that you do.  Hopefully, you will have some good news to share on your progress.  That will cause us to look further at what you are doing.

I am plant-based, but I have not seen anything on whether that dietary approach is helpful or not for acoustic neuromas.
Burning Tongue, Loss of Hearing & Balance, and Tinnitus led to MRI. Very small AN found on 11/23/2021
While watching and waiting, lost significant hearing. WRS now at 12% (down from 100%). Was fitted with CROS system on 3/7/22.  Stable MRI on 7/29/22
No treatment yet.

Hi Don,

Check :   https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5090244/

you might have already came across this study but the conclusion was:

"Recent studies have identified a variety of micronutrients present in fruits and vegetables, including curcumin, resveratrol, genistein, diallyl sulfide, S-allyl cysteine, allicin, lycopene, capsaicin, diosgenin, 6-gingerol, ellagic acid, ursolic acid, silymarin, anethol, catechins, eugenol, limonene, beta carotene, and SFN, which appear to limit tumor growth, suggesting a mechanism by which dietary constituents may exert anti-carcinogenic activity5,22. Here, we sought to identify compounds with inhibitory effects on schwannoma cells at doses consistent with their natural concentrations. We found that SFN had inhibitory effects on primary human vestibular schwannoma cells and a human NF2-derived VS cell line in vitro, as well as on an in vivo allograft model of VS."

Of course there is a difference in taking supplements and having a pure form of it injected at the right dosage by a medical team
But the conclusion is there are in fact micro nutrients that have been proven to work inhibitory, so i'd figured i just add them to my diet who knows, as long as its not being tested on human subjects right now i figured its worth a try. \

Again, not a doctor nor do i have any experience in reading and understanding medical study's, but according to my neurosurgeon theres nothing that works and i should just wait till it gives me more issue's and that's just not acceptable to me.

There is certainly no harm in sharing what you personally use as long as others in the forum understand that we are not physicians nor nutritionists (which you clearly stated).  Others may choose to also do the same thing or something similar or not anything at all.  That is the value of the forums: we can share what we do.  No one has to do the same thing because we are on similar but different journeys.  Thank you for sharing with us your supplement regimen!

Your approach to documenting your progress and being cautious with supplements is great! Make sure to share your full list with a healthcare provider or pharmacist to ensure there are no interactions and keep up with your healthy habits, walking and clean eating are already doing wonders!

I found a site that offers Affordable herbal remedies from Germany with a great deal. If you need to, you can take a look.

I’ve also been through a phase of testing out different supplements to support overall wellness, especially after a health scare a couple years ago. I focused more on magnesium, curcumin, and omega 3 like you, and noticed they helped with general inflammation and sleep. I added green tea, just like you mentioned, and switched most of my protein sources to plant-based, like quinoa and legumes. Cutting out alcohol made the biggest noticeable change in how I felt day to day.

Tracking everything over time definitely helped. I didn’t want to overdo anything or mix stuff that didn’t work well together. What’s helped me stay on top of it lately is using Menalam. It gives me clearer daily insight into which supplements I should actually take and whether anything needs adjusting depending on current habits or health.

I take supplements based on my understanding of what drives AN progression biologically. So I target these pathways: CXCR4, MAPK, COX2, VEGF, PAK1/AKT/mTOR, The NLRP3 inflammasome (involved in hearing damage). After watching a recent video in the Webinar library I am also now aware of TAMs and reading up on that. I choose supps after googling the way they inhibit these pathways and VS. I do short courses of helpful supplements that include: berberine, melatonin, fisetin, D3K2, sulforapane, CBD/CBN, curcumin, astaxanthin, palmitoylethanomide, fucoidan, magnesium, taurine, blueberry extract, SPM resolvins etc. I would like to add that diet is important  as is keeping stress down and prioritising sleep, light exercise, keeping weight and blood sugar and lipids under control. Supplements have their place but fillers eg can be bad for the gut so I am very careful to choose well researched brands and not take too many supplements at a time. Just as important as the brain is taking care of liver, kidneys, heart, gut, lymphatic (and glymphatic) systems.
