type of MRI
« on: December 27, 2024, 09:49:29 pm »
I wonder what folks here have to say about an IAM MRI vs regular MRI with contrast.  PCP ordered brain MRI, brain angiogram, and neck MRI.  I am wondering if I should wait to meet with neurologist 1/6 to discuss IAM MRI instead.  Do we tell the radiologist to focus on that side in the ear area?

I am scared of contrast with kidney disease though my eGFR is a little above the limit. And afraid MRI's will worsen tinnitus.

But will move forward when I know exactly what imaging to get. Symptoms continue. Vertigo all day today, facial pain and numbness, tinnitus on left side. Hearing loss close to equal on both sides though. It could all  be cervical in origin.

Hello I have had many MRI’s before my surgery and after. Knowing you have kidney issue its important to have blood test to make sure kidneys are ok. Most facilities request a blood test.  Brain mri results show entire brain including THE AN. Personally I would see the neurologist prior to the MRI. And I have tinnitus and it has not worsen since the MRI’s. I have had those additional tests as well. My surgery was in 2016. I have to continue the mris until the 10th year. Oh, and I had facial pain and numbness due to the trigeminal nerve which was pinching the tumor. Although it’s better I still have slight pain and total numbness and deaf on right side caused by the surgery and balance is just ok other than that I’m really ok.GOOD LUCK.  keep us posted. Regards.

Welcome to the site. I have had many MRIs in the watch and wait and the post CK.  All have been with contrast and thinking back I my kidneys were never tested. However, when I had a CT done for my heart surgery they tested the kidneys before starting the procedure.  It could be the amount of contrast in the brain MRI is a lot less then the full body. now that I am in the post CK my ENT and I agreed no more contrast is need to simply monitor it.

MRIs never changed my tinnitus or balance issues

Good luck on your journey.

Thanks! I already know my eGFR which is sometimes borderling for MRI< sometimes not, so I would ask for a low dose of contrast and hydrate.

My main question is whether an IAM MRI would be better. Internal Auidtory Meatus MRI.  https://mrimaster.com/protocol-and-planning-of-iams/

My facial and auditory nerves are certainly talking to each other!

Hello! I would definitely discuss the MRI with your neurologist.  The different types and the  amount of contrast which is usually based on weight. Good luck.
