LlIPREADING
« on: February 08, 2007, 01:21:20 am »
I have had a number of questions regarding lipreading classes
- I think you should consider it if you have reduced, or no hearing.
The process listed below is for the states and has come from
an organiser of the NF2 Crew
We can not vouch for any individual group - only that they exist:

"First place to check is the Untied Way in your area.

this is for Washington but most city's have these
Members of the Service Providers Coalition include:
Hearing, Speech & Deafness Center
Abused Deaf Women's Advocacy Services
Community Service Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Lighthouse for the Blind
Helen Keller Northwest
Deaf Blind Service Center
Division of Vocational Rehabilitation
Seattle Mental Health
Department of Services for the Blind
Self Help for Hard of Hearing
Washington State 911
Washington Sensory Disabilities Services
Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing
American Sign Language Interpreter School
Shared Reading Video Outreach Program
Washington State Deaf-Blind Citizens

Community Schools
adult learning schools

-This is for the Washington area but I expect other areas would have
organisations of similar title/function

I hope this info is of use to you
Best Regards

tony,
Thanks for the information, and the idea to check out lip reading classes.  Having had poor hearing for a long time, I've found that I unconsciously lip read.  If someone is covering their mouth when they talk, I have a much tougher time understanding what they're saying.  I may check out what lip reading classes are available here in NC.
Regards,

And some more leads for you :

"Good morning,

The Hearing Loss Association of America, previously called Self Help for the Hard of Hearing may be of assistance for you.  Their url is pasted in here

http://www.hearingloss.org/

I would suggest contcating them or the AG Bell Association, their url is

Hope this helps.

Best regards
Tony
