Hearing after surgery
« on: February 15, 2007, 03:44:49 pm »
Prior to surgery my hearing was very good.  Today I had my first hearing test since my surgery on January 10, 2007 and with different results.  My question is has anyone experienced improved hearing during the first 6 months after surgery?  What about the first year after surgery?  I'm looking for individuals that had microsurgery (retrosigmoid approach).

Thanks,

Joe-

Joe about 6 mos out of surgery I had my hearing checked and it was totally flat in my an ear.  At a little over a year mark it was rechecked and I did show some hearing it's just the bottom of the barrel and not serviceable hearing.  I was told by a hearing aid specialist to wait before getting a hearing aid in case improvement should occur.  I think we've all been given different thoughts on that from our doctors.

Joe i had retrosigmoid 11 months ago.  My earing before was perfect, with very slight tinnitus.  After surery it was 80% serivcable, with moderate tinnitus.  Now it's  still 80% servicable hearing,  but the tinnitus is a little louder.  I'm really not sure if you can 'gain' hearing after surgery.  After radiation i've heard you can tho.  Katherine
