Road Trip's Back!
« on: March 22, 2008, 09:31:21 am »
Must be the time for all the old timer's who abandoned y'all to return.  Its good to see a lot of the regulars still here and many, too many, newbies.  Quick update for those interested....its been two years since my surgery and I'm doing great.  I decided not to add hearing devices, since I seem to be doing okay without them (with the exceptions of many restaurants and Walmart :P)  We are still traveling around the country and worked at an amusement park in Des Moines Iowa last summer running the Roller Coasters.  I'm still taking the Mannetech Glyco products, don't know whether they were a great help or not but I feel great so I'll assume they work.  I've lost 50 lbs and workout almost everyday, either in the gym or the pool, and really haven't found anything I can't do since the surgery.  Guess I'm one of the really lucky ones.

Anyway, all is well, and I hope all is well with everyone here, I still wear my BattyPrincess Skull and Crossbones and remember fondly all the support and encouragement I received on the forums.  Best to all....

Dale -

I'm a regular now, but wasn't when you last posted.

Thanks for stopping in and updating us on your progress.  It sounds like you are doing fantastic and your post is very encouraging!

I'm also impressed by your picture 6 days post op - you look great  ;D

Hope to "see" you here more often.

Take care,

Hi, Dale:

Great to see you post again!

I was just thinking about you and some of the other posters who were here when I first joined almost two years ago but 'disappeared' over time.  It's to be expected that many AN patients will come and go on these message boards as they are treated, recover and eventually move on with their lives. I only hang around here in order to help newbies and those for whom I might be able to offer some useful advice on AN-related matters.  I won't be posting here indefinitely but I'm not quite ready to stop visiting the ANA site as long as I feel that I still have something to offer.

Like you, I'm one of the lucky ones with very little in the way of complications from my AN surgery and radiation.  I lost well over 30 (unwanted) pounds prior to my surgery (lost my sense of taste and with that, my appetite) and I've managed to keep the weight off, which, at my age, is a blessing.  I feel great, too.  I don't think I'm quite as active as you are, Dale, but I'm back to doing everything I did prior to my AN diagnosis and I think I can appreciate my life even more, now.  Funny how that works.   ;)

Thanks again for the re-connect...and safe traveling!

Jim

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Hi, seniors.  I lost 30 unwanted pounds in the year before diagnosis and found it too easy.  My appetite just waned.  I had few symptoms in those years prediagnosis.  But I realiize in retrospect that my balance was wavering and the numerous ear aches were more than sinus problems.  I feel just great and have all of the memory and mental abilities that I need. I feel it is important to lurk around and offer encouragement whenever the request arises.  Happy Easter to you.  My best to you, Roadtrip and Jim.

Glad you checked in, Dale.  Happy to hear that you are doing well and that your AN hasn't affected your quality of life.  That's always good to hear.  Drive safe and have a great summer!  Come back again, you hear???

Hi Cheryl, this worked when 4 wanted to post her biking picture, so maybe it will help:

You need a host for the picture. You can sign up at PhotoBucket: http://photobucket.com/. I just use the mini-web page that I get from Comcast. Any host will do.

Once you have posted the picture there, get the URL for it. Here is an example of a photo bucket URL:

http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc24/tapiccola10/Mountain%20Bike/me.jpg

In your post, click the Insert Image button (2nd row, 2nd button). That gets you

Code: [Select]
[img][/img]

Then paste the URL in between:

Code: [Select]

For my profile picture, it looks like this:
Code: [Select]

Without the code tags, that produces

Steve

Right side is weak too. Life is quiet.

Thanks to everyone for the Welcome Back!

Cheryl--yes, I'm going back to Adventureland this summer.  We are supposed to checkin with the park prior to April 15th so, will be headed that way soon.  We stay at the RV park that is attached to the amusement park and across the street from Prairie Meadows Race Track and Casino (see what y'all are missing ;D Don't need to hear to be able to pull those handles).  Send me a message if you are close by, I'd love to meet you.

I'm currently talking with a couple of folks in the Kansas City area who have been diagnosed and, as I travel I always check in with the local AN chapter to offer any assistance.  I remember a wonderful man named David in Kansas City who was kind enough to talk with me and assure me all would be okay, and it was a great comfort as I underwent my surgery.

Thanks again to all for the welcome back, I'll try and be a little more attentative to the forum.  After working in Des Moines this summer we are heading back to Colorado for a month or so, and then down to the Hill Country of Texas, just outside of San Antonio for the winter. Love being able to travel and paint...I'll never have the painting skills of Capt. Deb but I have regained my love for the medium.

Hugs to all......
