Gamma Knife Radiation

Although I have not posted many threads on this discussion board, I felt that I should make those aware of treatment and 'progress.' Yesterday I went to the New England Gamma Knife Center in Providence and had my "golfing buddy" hit with the big gahunna. I must say that Dr. Georg Noren and his staff were truly professional and that each ray went 300 yards down the middle of the fairway and either parred, birdied, or eagled each 'hole.' When they got to the green it was simply a matter of one-putting and it was the best score anyone could have played. So far, as of today, none of the balls have gone into the woods, bunkers, water or rough.

I appreciated all the information that all of you posted on my 'scorecard' as I felt that it helped me make the right decision. As most of you know, I won't know whether the results until they view my new  scorecard in another six months.

There was slight swelling where they attached the Augusta National golf helmet. I am taking it easy today and hopefully will be back in the swing of things tomorrow.

I have not had any light-headiness , but am somewhat tired from this round.

Again, I cannot thank all of you enough for your input. Even those who had their own postings which didn't pertain to my choice were of great help.

Hi Rich,

Sounds like you won the open!!!! I like your analogy but bet the AN did not ;)

I am trying to decide between CK and GK so I will be looking forward to hearing how it goes for you. Get rest and congrats for getting to this milestone.

CK June 2, 2008, BNI in PHX, Drs Daspit/Kresl, side effects,steroids helped. Getting "sea legs".
Apr 2012 - Still glad I chose CK

Rich, congratulations!  Ya know, I have never heard anything but fantastic info re: Dr. Noren. I know he's top of the line in the New England area for GK.. and understand that he is on the cutting edge of doing certain procedures via GK (ie: fractionated GK, etc).  You are in great hands and tickled that its now a done deal.

Welcome to the world of "posties" :)

BTW, as a kid, I was one of the rotten kids that use to steal golf balls off the local golf course... and have been chased, many a-time, by those looking for them while driving in their "boogie carts"    ;D

9th cranial nerve schwannoma - like an acoustic neuroma on another nerve. Have recently been told it could be acoustic neuroma. Only 7 mm of growth in 18 years. With no symptoms. Continuing W&W

Such is life...Finally identified...vidian nerve schwanomma, 2.8x2.8x3cm.....in the middle but under my brain.....post transphenoidal endoscopic surgery April 19th, 2007 Pre CK treatment in Sept 07.....re-arranged cavity in hopes of reducing side effects and now officially diagnosed as hard headed.

So happy for you and sounds like you didn't end up in a sandtrap.  And it doesn't sound like you'll have any handicap from this treatment and maybe hit a hole in one GK shot.   May you have blue skies and green fairways from here on out.

Hi Rich,
I am happy to hear you are doing so well. I was "zapped: by Dr. Noren last year. My experience with his staff (especially Beverly)was very positve.  At my six month MRI there was not much change, but I will be having my one year MRI soon and am confident that there will be more to see.
I was very tired the second day as well, but recovered very quicky.

Thanks for the update, Tiger.  ;)

I enjoyed the golfing references and, more importantly, I was pleased to read that your GK went smoothly and that you 'scored' well.   I'm not a golfer (unless 'mini golf' counts) so I won't seriously attempt to keep the golfing terminology in play, but I trust you'll have a good long-term recovery and be back in form soon.  :)

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.
