Jan~
YES -- you win the prize!  My friend found a weinie dog in her yard one morning when her dog was in heat.  They had had their dog for 11 YEARS and never had her "fixed" or any puppies.  Can believe that?  That's like being what, 77, and having your first baby!!!???  ???   She was a good mama though!

Actually it was just a lucky guess on my part.  But this might be a skill I can use to assist Lori in her on-line doggy dating ads  ;)

And no, I can't imagine having my first baby - or any baby for that matter - when I'm 77 !!!

And how do you spell Dauschaund anyway?  I'm thinking with the brain issues I sometimes have, we need to ask the ANA about adding spell check to this forum  ;D

I think it's spelled "WEINER DOG".  My sister used to have one and I couldn't even pronounce it, never mind spell it.

So, since Jan won the prize, does she get the dog now?

Jan, watch your mail!  It may be barking.

Lori -

I need a dog like I need a hole in the head!

Oh wait, I already have one of those - or is it two  ???

I officially grant you my prize - unless it's something other than a dog, that is  ;D

Truthfully, wouldn't your kids just LOVE a dog?

Well, two holes in your head calls for two dogs...

And my 5 year old is already telling me we should get another dog.  We already have 2.  I keep telling her we don't have enough room, so she wisely suggested we just get a bigger house.  Duh, why didn't I think of that?

I just love the logic of 5 year olds; everything is so black & white to them.

It reminds me of when one of my nieces was five.  One day when my brother picked her up from day care he said excitedly "Hey, look!  It's snowing!!!"  She replied, "Well, of course, you know it IS winter".

I like dogs a lot, but they are too high maintenance for me.  The cats, while sometimes aloof, are very self-sufficient and the rest of our pets (1 lizard, 1 corn snake, and 3 goldfish) don't require much.  Oh course, the pets all belong to my kids, but you know who takes care of them  ::)

Speaking of pets, our son is now having us babysit his Belgian Malinois.  By, us, I mean ME, because I'm the one home all day, mostly.  This is an 11 month old puppy who is a high drive shepherd and they are mostly used for police work.  My son does Shutzhund training with Diego, and he's a smart dog and learning a lot of things.  We go on our long morning walk every day and he is helping me get into shape.  He is also ruining our wood floor, eating socks, Kleenex, paper or any fiber or textile that he takes a fancy to, and keeps an eye out for squirrels and birds and cats and strangers.  I maybe have mentioned him before.  Not having had a pet in a while, this guy is a lot for me to take on, but he's a loving dog, and enjoys forehead kisses and snuggling on the couch.  He thinks he's a lap dog.  NOT.   I thought maybe I'd like to get a dog someday, but this experience may satisfy that urge for awhile.  Maybe we'll go back to a cat, which is what my husband wants.  He's always liked cats.  I just don't want to deal with a litter box again, and I also think that cats should be indoor pets and not roam around the neighorhood.  They, as a whole, are helping to decimate the song bird population.

It's getting close to the weekend.  Have a good one!

Sue, I guess grand-dogs are like grandchildren - you can get your fix of them, spoil them rotten and the send them home to their parents until the next time you need a fix!

I think that's why my Mom didn't get a dog after we all moved out - she always got to dog sit for one of the grand dogs at one time or another!

Well at least I have SOMETHING  to love on.  No grandkids, so I'll have to make do with Diego.  Hard to make cookies with him, tho!  ::)

Maybe you can make dog biscuits with him.  He might have a hard time with the cookie cutters though...

Okay, now I'm thinking maybe instead of an AN book, you should be writing a joke book  ;D
