Nose Flow

Hi Gang,
So I have a question and thought "Hey maybe my friends on AN will know".
I have facial paralysis  and all of the great things that go with it - one thing is my nose is sooo dry (no flow). I am 10 weeks post op and when I increase my heart rate my nose gets wet. I know gross but I wonder if something is happening?

I am not sure if that is a problem or not.              The frequent complaint of the nose getting wetter is with eating and it may run and being active and or in warm weather.           I heard of one lady who's nose only ran when plays golf.                        My right has had it's times of running when I ate along with my eye tearing but not since the facial neuroma surgery.       Now recemtly my left that had the spring surgery is doing it and I never even had any facial paralysis.   
I doubt it is a problem but could always ask your dr.

Michelle, I have experienced wet nose, running nose, and running eye on and off as the seasons and temperatures change.  This has continued since recovery from my surgery in 2005.  I have compared notes with lots of ANers and checked with my doctor.  I am hearing it is facial nerve weakness which will recover verrrry slowllyyyy.  I hope to report by year five that nose blowing at the dinner hour has ended.  The problem was a 7 on the scale of 1 to 10.   I'd say it is a 3 on the scale now.

I also get a drippy nose when I work outdoors in the sun.

The AN side of my nose runs like a faucet any time I do any sort of exercise.  It's fun to walk on the treadmill while having to blow your nose every 2 seconds.  I'm sure everyone in the gym tries to avoid the treadmill I've been on, because they probably figure I've got a nasty cold or something!   

Michelle, I used saline nasal spray for the dryness right after my surgery.  I think they also make gel you can use.  There's tons of stuff on the shelves for nose problems at the supermarket these days!  I'm sure you can find something that might make you more comfortable.

Thanks Lori,
So I went out and bought Secaris (lubricating nasal gel) and Simply Saline (sterile saline nasal mist). I am such a dork, I sprayed the nasal mist in my eye by mistake. I thought my husband was going to bust a gut laughing so hard. The gel seems to last a bit longer. While waiting for my face to progress it is nice to have things to be more comfortable. I also use those breatheze strips and they help on days or nights I feel stuffy. I appreciate the advice - thanks again.

Hi Michelle:  glad you found some nose remedies.   I get the nostril draining & eye tearing when I work out - only on the AN side.

Gald you got some relief.  I, like, Lori have trouble with my nose running like a river anytime I do anything where I get really hot - usually exercise.  I do notice it when I am working in the garden too - especially when I am bending over.  The gym is just CRAZY!

Wow - I'm so glad I'm not the only one!  I mentioned to my doctor that my nose runs any time I exert myself and he said he'd never heard of such a thing.

Michelle - how on earth do you manage to get nasal spray in your eye??    Your face must be really numb if you totally missed your nose!  Wear safety goggles next time!

Ha hahaha Lori I am such a dork. I got feeling back and still managed to spray it in my eye.
I guess it is not the nerve coming back but maybe other things thawing, so to speak.
I also think it happens when my body temperature rises. I was cooking, oven and stove on and it started again. My body temperature is a wee bit higher since surgery, maybe because it is in healing mode.

My doctor told me at the 2nd annual checkup that the nose and eye weeping problem would slowly improve and prescribed some nasal spray to help dry it up.  The nose drips as a response to confused nerve endings.  I was very annoyed by this problem every time I ate until this summer, 29 months post op.  Now my nose only gets drippy once in a while when I work in the heat or eat really chewy food.

Tip. try blowing your nose before eating and the problem is more manageable.

I have also noticed that my nose gets runny whenever the eye on my paralyzed side waters a lot.

It's nice to know I'm not crazy.  My nose drips a lot, and mostly it's the AN side.  And my nose gets so cold in the winter months.  I had GK, but I have facial numbness so my facial nerve is affected....so I know it must be AN related.  And now I KNOW it is, from all your posts.  It's not all allergy related, or both sides would be running like a faucet, right?  I have tissue boxes in every room in the house!

Our poor little nerves are so screwed up!

Lacilube for your nose?
Okay so I am struggling with a dry nose (I have facial paralysis) and have bought sprays and gels to moisturize my nose and everything it soooo short lived. So I tried my lacilube (that I use for my eye) and I am cured, it is so wonderful! Try it you will be surprised. I thought if it is good enough to go IN my eye it is good enough to go in my nose! I will beat this no matter what!!!
