Pizza is fine with me. I am not coming to Chicago for the food, even though there is plenty of good food there. I care more about who I am eating with.  :)

Do men have to wear a tie for high tea? I think I still have one somewhere up in the attic...

Steve

Steve, why not knit yourself a new tie out of the remnants of all the hats you have made thus far? Now THAT would be a conversation piece.

Most  small sessions have room and I've never seen it checked if you signed up for a particular session.        I've changed where I was going more than once.    There might be some that are real full but usually are in a big enough room if you decide want to go to another one than first stated.                 Just so the ANA isn't reading this!                        Cheryl R

I will be coming in with my family sometime Thursday and attending workshops related to facial paralysis on Friday. Not sure where we will be staying yet, but not the Drake. I'll post again when we've made our final plans.

symposium does have a full schedule for Friday... and was told that we will not find out until registration what each person is confirmed to attend (ie: workshops you ask for when you enrolled for the symposium, etc).

symposium event schedule for Friday and later:

http://www.anausa.org/symposium_schedule.html

Phyl...Hmmm....Good point...the workshop really kicks off on Friday afternoon. By Saturday afternoon, people may be ready for a break.
I've reserved a table for Saturday at 3:30.
Steve, the dress code is not that strict...no flip flops, cut offs.... Chicago is pretty casual.

Dress code questions - are jeans okay for the workshops?  And, what is the dress code for Sat night?  I may spit food across the table, but I want to make sure that I am dressed appropriately when I do it!  ;) :D

You will see all styles of clothing at the symposium so what ever you are comfortable in.           The banquet is rather dressy and you will see all styles of dressy.     I don't own anything  formal at all so a dress I wore to a wedding is it.               Putting on pantyhose is a big deal to me.                               Cheryl R

I would say a summer dress or black pants will be fine.

Gosh, the dress code all over is lax these days.  Recently, when at a Broadway performance, there were people there in jeans...anything goes.

Thx for the dress code tips!  I am hoping to avoid panty hose (and there will DEFINITELY be no heels on these feet) and Willie is hoping to avoid a tie - oh, and he says no heels for him either  ;D

I just got "How Starbucks Changed My Life" and am getting ready to read it this week - getting myself in the mood!

Can't wait to meet you all.

Reminder: today is the deadline for reservations at the Drake. http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/groups/personalized/CHIDHHH-ANA-20090811/index.jhtml
Phone: 800-564-7306

Our plans have changed slightly and only my two girls and I will be coming. But for two queens at the Drake it is $279 rather than $199 per night and there is an additional $49 per night for parking. Well, it did say $199 for room chosen at check-in but that would not guarantee two queens. I am still working on alternatives - hotels.com is featuring Chicago as a destination but nothing in the near vicinity to the Drake.

Sara

Quick question -- does anyone know the cancellation policy for the Drake?

Sara,

I thought the cancellation policy was close to the day of check-in. If I get the chance I will call them later to confirm that. Yes, they are trying to "Upsell" the room.  When searching, know that all of the Chicago hotels will charge for parking downtown so that will be a wash. Parking is a premium in the Windy City.

I will need to be cancelling myself.   My 26 year old physically-fit son got a virus in January which appears to have also settled in his heart  destroying a valve necessitating valve replacement surgery. He is already a stage 4 meanng that over60 % of his blood is leaking and not pumping through a properly opening and closing valve.  It all makes the heart work harder.  We are traveling to Ohio for the surgery because they do a less invasive procedure. It is hard to believe, but Chicago does not have surgeons who do not crack open the rib cage.  So we are travelling to Ohio where the procedure replaces the valve without the aforementioned.  His surgery date is August 13.

I did make reservations at the Drake for the group on Friday, August 14 at 3:30 for high tea. I am happy to email the confirmation to anyone who planned to attend.  The pizza place on Thursday said on their website that they don't take reservations, but honestly once I got a count, I was going to try calling Gino's East. Due to the circumstances, I am havng to relinquish my role as self-appointed social director. I am counting on the other organizers in the group:-)  Also, you may find the earlier list of places useful...around page 15 or such.

If someone needs my reservation at the Drake, please PM me.

Oh Kate, you and your son are certainly in my prayers. Mayo at Rochester, MN also does the less invasive surgery if you feel that you need a second opinion.

Kate, where in Ohio are you going? There are centers in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus. I know the Cleveland Clinic is renowned. I remember being vaguely surprised when I learned that Ohio was a leader in cardiac surgery, but then again, why not?

Oh, Kate - so very sorry to hear about your son.  I will keep you both in my prayers.

SaraLynn - have you tried the Knickerbocker?  Willie got us a very good rate by calling the hotel directly - and it's right next to the Drake!
