Finally received the ANA newsletter!
« on: September 23, 2008, 02:07:07 pm »
I'm pleased to report that I've finally received 'Notes' - the quarterly newsletter for ANA members.  As usual, it's full of interesting information as well as the much praised piece from our own David Douglas Shannon (aka 'LADavid'), recounting his AN journey from diagnosis to where he is today.

I can state, without reservation, that the praise was well-deserved.  David's account is concise and compelling.  I commend his writing skills and highly recommend those who have access to it, read David's story.  I enjoyed reading it and, of course, I wish him well as he continues his journey toward full recovery.  :)

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

I also saw David's piece.  Unfortunately, half the pages of the back had been ripped off.  I literally had to "read between the lines", but I also want to commend you for your work, David.  Well done!

Right here: https://secure.baxinternet.com/~anausa/membership_donate.html.

Annual membership dues for the Acoustic Neuroma Association: $40. and includes the quarterly newsletter.

I noted your 'wink', but thought it might be a good idea to put this information out there for those who may be interested in receiving 'Notes' and the benefits of ANA membership.

I have come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to hold my mail man hostage until I get my newsletter.  I'm beginning to think he's got it, he's just not done reading it yet.

If there wasn't a gas shortage here in Nashville, I'd drive to Canada and read Anne Marie's!  I'm sure she's done with it by now.

I decided that Ike must have blown my copy of the newsletter away!  Haven't seen it yet, but did get the packet for the fall ANA Houston Support Group!  We are meeting in my neck of the woods....d***inson, TX in the community room at Amegy Bank on Termini Drive.  It is on November 1 from 1-3.  I hope to see lots of folks from this area there.

Thank you, Jim.  I appreciate your comments.  And thank you Jo and Tammy.  I do have a confession about the concise part.  That was actually a 5,000 word story that I had to edit down to 1600 words for the newsletter.  It was painful but it seems like it worked out.  And by the way, while I haven't seen the newsletter yet, I think Lainie has a letter to the editor.  She's a regular participant on this Forum -- who Nancy (NL) and I will be meeting for coffee tomorrow.

Thanks again
David

Would the 5000 word article work to be put in a magazine?              I am a magazine nut and have seen many other health conditions written about.                Even seen ANs briefly mentioned in hearing loss articles.             Good Housekeeping or Ladies Home Journal or others, here you come!

David~
I still have not received mine, but was able to read your article.  As I knew, you are a wonderful author and it was a great piece!  ;D
It is strange that a lot of the "heros" don't have theirs!  Maybe we are really "sidekicks" (watched "SkyHigh" with the girlies yesterday!)!!

Hey, wait a minute... how did you get to read David's article if you didn't get your newsletter?  You must know people in high places....
