Jen out of surgery update
« on: January 26, 2009, 07:33:03 pm »
This is Jen's husband Michael.  Her surgery went great today.  Her surgeons were Dr. Galfinos and Dr. Rolland.  They feel extremely confident that were AN was complete removed.  They utilized the trans lab approach and even told me that they were able to take some surrounding tissue.  Apparently  the scar tissue from the 1st surgery acted as a blockade from the faciial nerve.  Her facial nerve ia 100% fine and she is experiencing no side effects from the surgery - no faciial paralysis or sagging, no nausea, no headaches.  She is doing and looking great.  Surgery lasted about 5 hrs total and she is now in ICU recovering comfortably.  Hopefully she will be home on Thursday.  Her hearing in the ear is gone - but she is releaved it is over.  She is looking forward to catching up with everyone soon.
5/01  1.3 AN removed at NYU using Retrosig. Approach
2/07  Rediagnosed with Regrowth 8 mm (wait & watch mode)
1/09  1.4 AN removed at NYU using Translab (total tumor removal)

Michael -

thanks for the fast update on Jen.  It's nice to know she's doing so well.

Although I'm sure it wasn't pleasant having to go through AN surgery twice, at least it sounds like there were some positives from the first surgery that helped with the second.

Give Jen a big hug from all of us and let her know we are thinking of her.

Get some rest yourself; I'm sure you are exhausted.

Take care,

Jan

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the fab update on Jen.  What really wonderful news that the docs were able to get the entire tumor and that her facail nerve is 100%.  As you know, that is always a concern for us ANers.  Please give her a big hug from me and tell her to rest and get better quickly.  We are all looking forward to hearing from her when she feels up to it.

Wishing Jen a quick and uneventful recovery,

Wendy

Hi, Michael:

I've been distracted with other issues since yesterday and so, a bit out of the loop, as it were.  However, your good news about Jen's surgery was appreciated.  Please add my well-wishes to the long list you'll give to your wife.  :)  We look forward to seeing her post on her own, soon.  Meanwhile, thanks for the update.

Great news, Michael.  Thank you for the update.  Make sure she gets plenty of rest -- she won't have much of a choice actually (nap attacks happen) and give her our best.
