Neal (NTeeman) Surgery Update

Hi All-

Got an email last night from Kim saying "Neal came out of the surgery just fine.  The surgeons said it went perfectly."  Yahoo!!  I'll post again when I hear more - in the meantime, let's hope Neal is resting as comfortably as possible (yeah, like that's possible with a big hole in your head and a skin-tight turban!)

Way to go, Neal!!!

Just got another email from Kim.  She said that Neal looked "pretty cruddy" last night and he is in a bit of pain today.  She's on her way to the hospital shortly (delayed because of the bad weather) and will update me later.

We all know that the first day is the worst.

Thanks for the update Debbi.  The first 24 hours are definitely the worst, so hopefully he's on his way to feeling  better.  Tell him Marci says to enjoy the drugs, eat the bad food, and walk as soon as possible.

Thanks for passing along Neal's update (via Kim).  As Steve is fond of stating: "the first 3 days (post-op) don't count".  I think most AN surgery patients would agree.  That being the case, Kim should urge Neal to just rest and let the anesthesia wear off until he feels better, probably around Day 3.  Meanwhile, we're all rooting for him and hope to see him home and posting again, soon.

Hi Debbi -

Thanks for the great update on Neal,!  I was just thinking about him and wondering how he's been feeling since his surgery on Tuesday.    When I PM'd him on Monday he told me he hoped to be home and posting for himself by Friday -- hopefully he will.  In the meantime I'll look forward to whatever updates you can provide.   Please give Neal my best wishes!

Another quick update on Neal - got a note from Kim, his wife and here's what she said...

"Neal's doing good and they think he can go home Friday. Thy moved him to a private room yesturday which I didn't think he was ready for.  The private room is so much nicer with comfortable chairs, bathroom, 5th ave window.  They said he needs a more normal routine to start walking around/more stimulation.
 
He just called and said he's feeling much better, less headaches and is starting to eat.  They had to do a spinal tap to relieve fluid pressure.  2 interns tried till 1 doctor finally got it right.  He was suppose to need a few of them, but today he said there was so far no need."

Sounds like he's doing well.  I'll keep ya posted!

Thanks for the update!  I, too, had a spinal tap, albeit not til almost 2 months post-surgery.  They're no fun, but necessary.  Ironically, for me the pain shot hurt worse than the actual tap procedure.  I hope he continues to feel well, gets moving around a little, etc..  All of us surgery vets know that doing so can only help speed some things along.

I also had 2 spinal taps while I was in the hospital.  The surgeons said it reduces the risk of leakage.

Thanks for another great update on Neal!  It sounds like he must to doing really well and I hope for his sake, gets to go home today.  As the saying goes -- there's no place like home!

Hi All-

Got another update from Kim late last night.  Neal is feeling better by the day and the docs said he should be able to come home today!! Wahoo!  Kim said that they would do a final check up and blood work before releasing him; but he should be home in his own bed soon.  I am sure he'll be thrilled.

Kim wasn't sure why they did the spinal tap, so we'll have to wait for Neal to fill us in on that.  Meanwhile, here's hoping Kim and Neal both get some much needed rest.
