April 3 will be my BAHA day!
« on: March 07, 2009, 10:26:57 am »
Hi all,

I had my two month post-op doctor appointment yesterday and he said April 3 I get to start using my processor!  He gave me the BAHA kit the day of my surgery, iincluding the processor, and I've read the pamphlets and played with the processor (of course I haven't put it on) so I feel like I'm one step ahead of most people in this sense.  I am so happy and excited I'll probably wish this month away.  My BAHA site was slightly  inflammed for a few weeks, but the steroid drops my doc prescribed took care of pretty quickly and   I've noticed a couple of people started having post-op problems at the two month post-op stage, so although I know complications and not usual,  I'll be watching my BAHA site closely for any sign of things going wrong.

Arkansasfarmgirl and Robin -- I hope things improve soon for both of you.

Wendy ~

Congratulations!  I'm happy for you and anxious to learn of your impressions when you commence using your BAHA.  I'm sure it'll be a great experience.  :)

Hi Jim Anissa, Jan and Sue,

I'm pretty confident everything will go as planned and I won't have any problems, just being pragmatic.   I am definitely looking forward to hearing better again.  Every now and then I lightly scratch my abutment so I can hear those scatchy sounds.  It's amazing what modern technology can do for us and it will be wonderful not having to say "what" and"excuse me" what feels like every five seconds of a conversation.   I willl definitely post this on the AN Calendar - 26 days and counting!

Wendy,

Congrats on April 3rd being your BAHA day!  I'm somewhat jealous, although I am leaning towards TransEar.. I just haven't made the leap of faith to go see the doctor to try it out and explore the options..

It will be here before you know it..

Regards,
Brian

Thanks Brian,

I was more than ready to take the leap and have BAHA surgery.  I would have done it in November or December had it not been for my leaky incision (started the week after surgery and stopped in October).  My doc made me wait four months after the leak stopped for the BAHA surgery and being SSD  has been driving me crazy.  I know some people adjust to it, but between the fact that my husband and kids tend to  mumble (confirmed by people who do hear well) and my own impatience with being SSD this was a must for me.  Twenty four days to go, not bad at all! :D   When you're ready to adderss  what you're going to do, you'll know.  From  what I understand, Transear is a pretty good option too, I just hate having anything in my ear, so I knew it was not for me -- it would have driven me crazy and I would have ended up not using it.

Hi Lori!

I'm very excited as I know you can imagine!  In just a little over three weeks (WOW) I'll finally be able to use my processor.  I'm sure it will be amazing.  I was looking back at some of the posts Jan wrote right before and after her BAHA day and the responses she got to them.  Pretty interesting and funny stuff.  I have to say, you in particular were in rare form.  If you need a laugh, you should go back and read them.   ;D

Thanks Maureen -- I'm sure it will be a great day too.  I'll be posting pictures too.  When I looked back Jan's posts, I noticed my BAHA site is smaller than hers and my doc had mentioned there was a new trend toward smaller sites so it should be an interesting comparison   As I told him, I'm so flattered to be a trendsetter.   ;D

wendy,

I know, for a fact, that April 3 is a fantastic day to have your BAHA done... as it's the same day I started CK (This April 3 will be my 3rd yr anniversary of CK!)  ... :)  Worked well for me and I know your BAHA is going to work well for you! Sending wishes to you for a terrific April 3!
