I definitely have input on that one.  When I was released from the hospital, my balance was a little wobbly but fine.  Over the next 4 or 5 months it worsened.  I started Physical Therapy for my face and balance 6 months after surgery.  When the PT evalutated my balance last May, my vestibular senosory ratio was at 20% -- in October it was 40% -- and last month 50% -- all abnormal.  There have been periods where it got worse.  Only my visual ratios have been acceptable.  The word from my PT, stick with rehab and stick with my exercises.  As far as the hiking boots and barefeet -- I can only guess that the hiking boots would provide more stability.

All I know is that extreme therapy has worked wonders for me. On the odd occasions where I stopped for a couple of weeks my balance came crashing down...literally. I don't even think about stopping now...that's why I paddle my board even in the dead of winter in New England.

Funny you mention the increased sensitivity to smells. I never equated the two but shortly before ny AN was diagnosed I started to develop a sensitivity to scents. The sicky sweet scents really get to me and can kick off a headache.

Like Bob said about paddle-boarding, I found to be true of kayaking.  It seems to help.  I am sorry to hear about your visuals though.  I think that have acceptable visuals is the only thing that has gotten me as far as I have.  I would definitely stick with PT if I were you.  I'm not stopping it until all my ratings are in acceptable levels.
Best wishes

yes, this is my new plan. Its all so frustrating my left eye is not tracking things well & will follow object stop when it stops then jump
past it.I am having major muscle spasms in neck n head that actually cause my AN ear to visually move.
