We be needin' a Shark Wrangler--I nominates Miss Chris-wench from the Land of Oz!! She be keeper of the Timtams, but bein' but a wee slip of a wench, she be needin' some help protectin them from various other pirates and scallywags.  We need her to train that fierce lookin' sharky-poo as a guard shark!!!
Back in me lean days on St John, I was needin' some beer money and I went lobster divin with this scallywag of a boyfriend--we was sellin them lobsters to the Rockefeller resort for big bucks. I had me a bag o' dyin lobsters and me boyfriend decided to pull the tail of a 6 foot nurse shark that was sleepin on the bottom.  Yikes!!!! I did not like that one bit!

I don't need the shark for protection, besides I don't like them. They have big teeth and munch on anything that resembles food. Can I just stick to protecting the Tim Tams with my big dogs? They look pretty mean unless you offer them a pat, food, a toy etc etc  ;D.

Capt,
I know what you mean about the shark.  The first time I went snorkling in the Ocean we went out on a boat from Key West.  They threw us overboard by some remote Key.  I was on the bottom looking down and enjoying the multicolored fish in the Elkhorm coral, thinking "I wonder if the really big things in the sea play with things my size like I'm playing with these small fish?"   I needed to go up for air, and when I looked up I was surrounded by a school of barracuda, all eyes, teeth, and rapacious speed.  I was thinking, now would have been a good time to use the buddy system, oops, and the boat was about 20 yards away.  I was out of breath so I was trying to appear "calm and cool" while heading to the surface and swimming between them.  I was sure that the baracuda could hear the hammering of my heart from the big surge of adrenaline.  The baracuda weren't impressed, it was like passing a street wise gang who were trying to appear bored while watching my every move.
Regards,
 Rob

I agree, I've snorkled around plenty of barracuda, and they're a freaky looking lot.  They're kind of like 'possum, all teeth and scary looking, but really are just watching you and aren't up to no good, unless your finger looks like a fish.  It's pretty unnerving until you figure this out though.

My favorite snorkeling place is Galapagos - sharks, huge turtles, manarays (?sp), & my favorite,  sea lions, all hanging out with you having a grand ole time.   I felt alot safer swimming in Galapagos then the Keys (friendlier fishies in the Galapagos)  Nancy

Wow, Brucifer! I became friends with Mel Fisher while he was on St Croix when the movie "Dreams of Gold" was being filmed. It's about the finding of the Atocha and starred Cliff Robertson. My music partner, Michael "Beans" Gardner had a speaking role in the movie and played a song in it! I painted a couple very special T-shirts for him when he came into my little shop in Christiansted. He had had some pretty incredible jewelry made for himself out of some of the bullion.

And yes, a school of 'cudas is frightening. I find swimming at them real fast makes them go away. Also scares the bejezzus out of Dr. Love when I do that!!!

LOVE snorkeling off Catalina Island... OMG, what a treasure to be had... as well as swimming with the sting rays in Grand Caymen.  Dang, such fun!
