Sue,

I lived in Hawaii for a short time (a little over a year) and the showers were very welcome and didn't last anytime at all.  Nothing stops when it rains.  They aren't belly gunchers.
Have a very wonderful time.  I haven't been since 1995, but it is one of the most beautiful places on earth and the people make it even more wonderful.
Don't miss the Dolphins while you are looking for whales!!!   Have you packed your grass skirt??

Hugs,

No grass skirt, Brenda.  Maybe I'll buy one there! HA

Actually, I lived in Hawaii from 1966 to 1969.  You'd think I'd know what to expect, wouldn't you?  8)   It just seemed like the weather report had an awful lot of showers going on.  I think everything will be just fine.  I remember on the days when the tropical downpours would engulf all of Oahu and it would rain so hard you couldn't see across the street, I would feel bad for the tourists who spent their life savings to go to Hawaii and they ended up with THAT week.  I just didn't want to end up with THAT week!!  But we'll be on a ship traveling to Maui, Hilo, Kona, and Kauai, so somewhere along the line, we are bound to hit some nice Hawaiian weather.

Hang 10, bro!

Omg, Sue I lived in Hawaii in 1969-1970!!  My husband was stationed there and then shipped to Vietnam, where he was killed on his second tour of duty and I had to come back home.  I have been back several times and love the beauty and the people!!  Don't foget to send pineapples home!!  Have a wonderful time.

Wow, Brenda.  I left in August of 1969.  Lots of Vietnam stuff going on then, and I am so sorry you lost your young husband to a stupid war. What a waste.

I lived right in Honolulu, on Wilder and Keeaumoku Street, which is straight to the mountains from the Ala Moana Center.

This'n's fer Miss Sue Wench and Miss Brendalu Wench and a welcome ter Miss Anissa Wench!

Me new fave Mr Jimmy song!

Enjoy!

HULA GIRL AT HEART

(Jimmy Buffett, Peter Mayer, Roger Guth, Will Kimbrough)

She owns a window to the ocean
She has a pipeline to the sky
But earthly creatures rarely notice
When Guardian Angels pass them by

Like a gecko behind a painting
With hidden wisdom to impart
In a world that needs more dancing
She's a hula girl at heart

Photographs show she is lovely
Her bare feet are a work of art
Her fragrance speaks of frangipani
Yes she's still a hula girl at heart

With Her pad and watercolors
Drawing fish and butterflies
Children always seem to conjure
Images they recognize
In the land beside the ocean
Where romantics seem to dwell
Destiny can set in motion
Ripples that turn into swells
She Knows how to face the music
She Knows where the magic starts
In a world that needs more dancing
She's still a hula girl at heart

Songs sing slow
Days zoom by
Time can't keep her
Nor can I

She has worn a wealth of costumes
Hula skirt to wedding gown
Lived in cities walked through jungles
Always sees the sun go down

In this age of teeming tourists
Fellow travelers know her well
The darling of deserted beaches
Hides her wisdom in a shell
Her sensual and easy motion
Seems impossible to chart
In a world that needs more dancing
She's still a hula girl at heart

Melt the chocolate!  Scooby Doo, you can dip Goldie Junior if you like!

I like the way you think!  Arrrr.   Starting to feel at home now.

Just sit right down and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip,
That started from this tropic shore,
Aboard our pirate ship,

The mate was a mighty sailin' wench
The captain brave and sure
The scallywags set sail that day
For a 3-hour tour
A 3-hour tour....

(best I can do on short notice)

The long board belonged to the life guard!  No, I left mine at home, didn't want to haul it on the airplane.  ;)

So, have any of you heard about the Kauai Chickens?   This may have been the highlight of my trip!  :D

In 1992 Hurricane Iki roared into Kauai, destroying property and causing chicken coops all around the island to be up-ended or whatever, and the chickens that people raised were "released" via Mother Nature and since nobody wanted to try to round them up, they were left to their own devices.  They have no natural predators, so they have gone forth and multiplied over the years and they are EVERYWHERE.  You can't go anywhere without hearing them crow.  They are in the hills, on the sides of the roads, in the parking lots, and on the beach.  They are really quite pretty and have practically become the symbol of Kauai. You'll see them adorning shirts, hats, paintings, etc.  This one was at Poipu Beach.  He posed very pretty for me, don't you think?

Sue, great pic...I know all about the Kauai chickens....we were there on a week long vacation a couple of years ago and loved Kauai. I was playing golf at Kauai Lagoons(Jack Nicklaus course) and there were chickens all over the course. They are the unofficial mascot of Kauai. I also recognize Poipu beach...we were there doing some boogie boarding. I remember having a hard time standing up in the water there with the waves crashing in.
