This Week (4/26) in the Pandemonic AN World

Since Swine Flu is in the news this week and the word pandemic is being bantered about, I thought I would jump on the bandwagon.  Anyone know the origins of the word?

What I know about last week:

Mike (mikjul1) and Lisa (Sefra22) started their race to the processor with successful BAHA surgeries.

Patrick (Texsooner) completed the rain delayed MS 150.

And the NE Brunch Bunch ate Apple Dumplings.

So what's going on this week.

Monday, Marybeth (m4guzman) from New Jersey is having a Mid-Fossa at NYU.  Best wishes for a great surgery Marybeth.

Tuesday's a busy day starting off with Debbi's first year anniversary visit to the Tube o' Gloom.  I'm sure you're well prepared with Valium -- so have a pleasant tube visit and hoping for an un-remarkable scan.

Next up, Laura (Allegro17) from Houston who ran the Boston Marathon last week is having a Endoscopic surgery here in LA and recovering in New York.  A whirlwind AN tour.  Have a great surgery Laura.

Then Patty (cjtender) from the New York area is having a Retro Sig at Sloan Kettering.  Best wishes for a successful surgery, Patty.

Wrapping up the day, Jan (leapyeartwins) holder of the most posts record, is having a 2nd year visit to the T o'G MRI at Hinsdale in Chicago.  May your scan too be unremarkable, Jan.

On Wednesday, Sara (saralynn143) from Jefferson City, MO is having an ophthalmological follow-up visit.  Best wishes for a good check up, Sara.

Then rounding out the week on Thursday, Patrick (Texsooner) from Hosuton who get two mentions  this week is celebrating his 49th Birthday.  Have a great one Patrick.

And finally on Thursday, Jo (tenai98) from Ontario has a follow-up visit with the ENT.  Hope everything goes well, Jo.

The Online Etymology Dictionary says:
1666, from Gk. pandemos "pertaining to all people," from pan- "all" + demos "people."

Lest you think pandemic is related to pandemonium, be advised thus:
1667, Pandæmonium, in "Paradise Lost" the name of the palace built in the middle of Hell, "the high capital of Satan and all his peers," coined by John Milton (1608-74) from Gk. pan- "all" + L.L. dæmonium "evil spirit," from Gk. daimonion "inferior divine power," from daimon "lesser god"

In case you are wondering about etymology, it says this:
1398, from Gk. etymologia, from etymon "true sense" (neut. of etymos "true," related to eteos "true") + logos "word."

Wow, busy week! 
Best wishes to Marybeth, Laura, and Patti having surgery, you all will be in my thoughts and prayers.  May your surgeries be great and your recoveries swift.
Happy birthday Patrick and way to go on the MS150!
Good luck to Jan and Debbi in the tube o' gloom visits, I know you'll be glad to have that behind you!
Sara & Jo, I hope you have happy doctors and happy news on your follow-up visits.

Anissa, how are you doing BTW? Home with 4 kids post brain surgery-I know you sailed through the surgery....however nothing like the real world coming back at ya! :o

I need a nap, being off steroids now, after reading all that is going on this week.  Last week was so relaxing on the forum, just following up on Lauralynn, so we'd all best rest up and be prepared for cheering on FOUR post-op recoveries.  Oh, my!
Positive vibes to all surgical, tubical, and follow-up patients and 49 Forever, Patrick, as I plan to be 59 Forever later this year!

Thanks David for the great reminder. 

Marybeth - I hope your surgery went well and you are on the road to a speedy and uneventful recovery.  The first few days are the worst, so rest, heal and get well.

Debbi - I know how much you dislike the TOG.  Hope the doc gave you some Valium and you breeze through it and see with your own eyes and Ethel is truly gone.

Laura - Wishing you a great operative outcome and quick uneventful recovery.

Patty - Sending wishes for a wonderful surgical outcome and recovery.

Jan -  Sending best wishes for your second post-op visit to the TOG.  I hope it shows nothing new.

Best wishes to Sara -- hope your checkup brings good news.

Patrick - Happy birthday -- I hope the doc has a good news report for you -- that would be the best present of all, I'm sure.

Looks to be a very busy week here. Best to everyone for excellent results in procedures and good news in follow-ups.

I do not personally anticipate anything other than a quick look-see and reschedule in four months.

Since I will be in St. Louis, I plan to stop and see if I can find a decent used Subaru Forester to replace our van that was totaled last month. That is, if the insurance company ever gets us a check.

Hey all-  Yep, I am loaded with valium and am about as ready as I can be for tomorrow's visit to the Tube of 1,000 Devils!  Can you believe that my surgery was 1 year ago this Thursday?  Holy cow. 

I can so vividly remember what I was feeling at this time last year - hopeful, scared, anxious and a raft of other emotions.  Emtional roller coaster is an apt description of what everyone goes through between diagnosis and treatment.  My heart goes out to every person on this board who is on the countdown to treatment and all I can tell you is that you just have to take it one day at a time and have faith. 

As always, I am eternaly grateful for all the wonderful people here - you guys all totally rock!

Debbi, prepared to square off against the Tube of Gloom!

Marybeth, Laura & Patty - ladies, you have my hopes and prayers for successful, complication-free surgeries this week

Debbi and Jan - I sincerely hope your respective MRI scans are completely unremarkable.
 
Sara - I wish you a successful ophthalmological follow-up. 

JO - I also hope your follow-up doctor visit is encouraging. 

Patrick - Happy Birthday!  Enjoy the final year of your 40th decade. 

David, as always, our individual and collective appreciation goes out to you - it may even become pandemic.  :)

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Survived the TOG earlier today - actually found it quite pleasant this time around.  Did I really say that  ???  :o

Anyway, got a souvenir CD that I haven't looked at yet - think I'll defer to my doc's judgment on the prognosis. 

Radiologist's report should be done in a few days and I asked that a copy be mailed to me.

I'm not ready to celebrate yet, but I feel quite good about the results.  Let's hope I'm not delusional  ;D
