I was wondering if anyone ever received Social Security Disability from having a AN? Especially those who have had surgery? Because one of the things that were covered by them was benign brain tumors. I would be interested in any replies. Thanks, Debi

I had talked with someone from Social Security office and was told at first I would qualify. When I went in for the meeting I was told that I did not qualify because I planned on going back to work full-time within a couple months. In addtion, I would have to be out of work for at least a year before I would Qualify for Social Security.

Hope this Helps

In some cases the recovery is long term, but it seems like in most cases people go back to work after 2 or 3 months, sometimes even sooner.

This is a good topic to do a search on (up at the top on the main forum page). If you search for Social Security Disability, you will find two things:
   1. It ain't easy, but
   2. It does happen.

Here are some of the good results:

As they say, good luck with that. :)

I receive Social Security Disability because of the complications directly related the my AN surgery.  It was a long haul, but I got it as did some others on this forum.

From the Social Securityy Disability website   http://www.ssa.gov/dibplan/dqualify4.htm

"The definition of disability under Social Security is different than other programs. Social Security pays only for total disability. No benefits are payable for partial disability or for short-term disability".

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

I just learned of my fully favorable decision today. The administrative judge's decision was based on the complications arising as a result of my surgery. It's been nearly two years since my initial application for Social Security Disability.

Thank's Brendalu for all of your support! ;D
