Hehe...my ears are always ringing...does that mean someone is always talking about me?... ::)

I'm happy my recovery has inspired some folks. I just wish everyone could have the same good fortune. I understand all to well how the bad days can get you down.

Incredible profile picture, Bob.

Is this pre or post op?

Hehe...that picture is pre-op and its also photoshopped. It's a combination of a drawing I did of Hokusai's "Great Wave of Kanagawa" and a picture of me. That said, I am surfing again, was out last Friday and had a blast....haven't had a chance to get on any really big waves yet but that's only because there hasn't been any since the docs said I could get back on the water. I did a 10 mile paddle yesterday in heavy winds and felt great. Life is good.... ;D

Actually you changed the picture!  Although I love this one, the one I was asking about was you with water crashing down all around you - looked like you were inside a huge wave.

Oh!...you mean this one.

That is pre-op last Feb. in Maui. Nice 4-5' waves with my brother at Kanaha beach. Very fun day.

I couldn't have stood up to that wave, I'd have dove under it ! !
I've been afraid to brave the ocean - maybe I'll give it a try !   I loved body surfing.
Now it's swimming in the condo pool, but exercise is exercise !

Always good thoughts,  Nancy

You'll notice the horizon is in the bottom right corner. I have a Go Pro camera attached to my paddle. It shoots a picture every 2 secs. You're bound to get some that are pretty interesting. I remember that fall well. I was flying along and caught the edge at the top of the wave....did a half sumersault into the water.....notice the nice hole my head is making.... ;D

5 months post-surgery. Went to see Dr McKenna today. He's very pleased with the progress of my face. Getting better all the time. He did suggest I make an appointment with facial therapy to help mitigate potential for synkenisis that is showing up (tears instead of saliva when eating) no muscle synkenisis yet but then I don't have much movement yet, just return of tone.
Other than the minor facial issues everything is great. Also went paddlesurfing today in wild wind and waves (6'+ waves with 2-3' chop mixed in and 15-20 mph winds) and had a blast. Quite a few falls but even folks with full function would have had a hard time of it today.

Bob, that photo is unbelievable!  You should enter it in a photo contest.  I wanted to add that I read your other 15 page post on paddleboarding under Balance the other day and was blown away by it.  I watched the videos....I showed my children...truly inspiring.  I actually went and found a place that gives lessons near Cape May, NJ where we vacation and am planning on trying it next summer.  I also live right next to to two rivers - one being the Hudson River which I don't think I will try but the other is small and we all swim in it and I think I can do this there!  So I am yet another ANer truly inspired by you and your balance post surgery! Keep posting those photos for us to enjoy.
