NF2 and Hydrocephalus
« on: March 19, 2006, 11:06:35 pm »
Is there any NF2 patient that developed Hydrocephalus before doing any procedure (Surgery, Radiation)?  What did you do?  What are the results?

Please help

Thank you

Sorry - I just saw this one from a while back - and it happened to me
Yes NF2 tumours can cause Hydro in exactly the same type/form that conventional A.N.s
can create problems. Hydrocephalus, in of itself, is quite harmless - its when it goes on untreated
for a while that the problems occurr.
Most cases are dealt with by fitting a "shunt"  (a small tube ) to drain away the fluids
- its a neuro OP but the hospital stay may only be 72 hours in total.
After the OP things slowly return to normal, 4-8 weeks for the sight disturbance
about the same for balance - nearly 9mths for the taste/smell function (in my case)
Of course tumour removal would also solve the problem - but they tend to sort the Hydro
first.
Let us know how your recovery is going
Best regards
Tony
