Surgery complete-New Postie!!
« on: October 30, 2009, 07:06:18 pm »
This is Raj, Archana's husband.  Archana had her surgery yesterday at Ohio State Med Center, Columbus OH (Translab approach, Dr. Dodson, 10 1/2 hours, BAHA implant included).  Longest 10 1/2 hours of my life so far!!  She is recovering very well, minor facial paralysis (2-3/6)-doctors think she should recover from it.  She is taking steps with assistance less than 24 hours later.  We want to thank everyone who helped us by actively maintaining this forum.  We benefited from it very much.

Thats a long surgery I'm sure it was really tough for you. Good idea to take care of everything at once and get it over with. It sounds as if everything went well congratulations on getting past this part.

Raj,
Thanks for the update. Sending gentle hugs to Arachna.
Tell her I also had the translab approach with BAHA at the same time, since they knew I would lose my hearing. (11 hour surgery).
As time goes on if she has any questions about the BAHA site and the incision site. I had headaches post op which went away. Is she experiencing them?
That was the hardest part-my husband waiting 11 hours for the outcome. I closed my eyes and then woke up!
Take care of yourself now.
Rest,
Maureen

This is Raj again.  Thanks to all.  Archana has been moved out of ICU and is recovering very well.  No IVs and she is eating regular food.  She walked around holding my hand for about 3-4 minutes.  She does have pounding head aches and some nausea other than that, she is doing good.

Raj ~

Thanks so much for taking the time to post Archana's surgery update - and a good one it is!  Congratulations to Archana - and to you - for getting through this.  I'm very pleased to learn that she is already walking and apparently is going to have a good recovery.  We'll all look forward to whatever updates you can offer and a post from Archana whenever she is ready.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Raj -

thanks for the updates on Archana.  It sounds like she is doing well.

Make sure she gets lots of rest - you, too!

Being a BAHA wearer myself, I can tell you that she'll love it.

Please keep us updated on her progress and give her our best wishes for a speedy recovery.
