Week One Treatment Update
« on: November 21, 2009, 02:51:40 pm »
Hello Everyone!

I wanted to drop in and give you all a follow-up report on my treatment.  I have just finished my first week of radiation and I have to say it could not have been any easier.  I got some adjustments made to the mask and now it is more comfortable.  My sessions are only 15 minutes long, and they get me in almost as soon as I walk in the door, so my day is hardly interrupted at all.  If anyone living in the Greater Cincinnati (or in the tri-state) area is looking to have this treatment, I can overwhelmingly recommend Precision Radiotherapy in partnership with University Hospital, in West Chester.  The people there are extremely polite, knowledgeable, and very helpful.

I met with my psysician yesterday and he reported that he is happy with the results of my X-rays and says that things are moving along well.  He believes that the odds of retaining my existing level of hearing is very good.  This makes me very happy.  I was a little concerned that music is starting to sound bad; flat, tinney, out of tune.  Some days my hearing seems "squeezed" and sounds seem far away. He says this is normal because the tumor will swell some during treatment. I am hoping when we are finished, sounds will return to normal. Other than that, I have had no adverse side effects. I will only have three days of treatments next week, because of the holiday and that should give my poor little brain a chance to rest some.

I am so glad that I chose this type of treatment and I hope I can still say that at the end.  I have every confidence that things will turn out good.

Happy Thanksgiving All, and thanks for your support.

Kate .....

Given your history of hearing/ear issues, this is good news indeed.  And, so glad you are having an easy time with the treatments.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, as well!

Hi, Kate ~

Thanks for the update on your radiation treatments.  I'm so pleased to learn that they're going well and the whole experience is an easy one for you (as it was for me).  Good news about the doctor's prognosis for your retention of hearing in the affected ear.  I trust this will be the case, making your decision all the more positive!

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.
