18 Months since gamma knife and....
« on: January 19, 2010, 05:35:26 pm »
still suffering from horrible tinnitus. It so loud and chronic and I am desparate. I thought that after 18 months, with no growth on tumor, i would be use to the changes. I am so deaf and have severe ear pain, which no one can find the reason for it.  I don't want to live llike this forever. I am afraid the ringing will drive me crazy.

I need advice on tinnitus and ear pain. Do I need therapy to adjust to these changes? I have seen a neuro, oral surgeon, and ent for pain.  None of them think it is the turmor. What do you think?  Any cures for tinnitus?  Please help

So sorry Bern of your tinnitus troubles.

You may have to seek the help of a tinnitus clinic.  We have one in Portland, Oregon.  Maybe there is one close to where you live.

Bern,

I'm sorry that your tinnitus is so challenging right now.  At least everyone on this site can relate to some form of tinnitus.  In my early days of my AN journey I searched for tinnitus support web pages to see how others were dealing with this.  I found one that really helped for me:  http://tinnitussupport92262.yuku.com/    (click on the "support" link).

Some people are AN'ers...and some are dealing with tinnitus due to ear injury, illness, and some with no known reason.  It is comforting to be with people that understand.

My personal point of view is that we have tinnitus because its our bodies way of making up for the lost "signal" that we no longer receive...kind of like the static between radio stations.  Have you thought of tinnitus retraining therapy?
Wikipedia has some good info on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinnitus_retraining_therapy

I hope this helps...please feel comfort in knowing that we have all been there.  Come here and vent, yell (OK...type), whatever you need to do.

Gary
