Alcohol post surgery??
« on: August 27, 2011, 11:05:02 am »
Hi All!

I was just wondering what others experiences have been with drinking alcohol after surgery? I know the balanace issues that might arise, but I have little to no balanace problems now that would cause me big problems.

I have my best friends wedding coming up in 2 weeks, I am on a blood thinner and have discussed this with my doctor, He has given me the go ahead to have a few drinks with the medications, I just need to get my bloos tested one more extra time.

My main concern is if this will effect my AN surgery? The surgeon did not give me any restrictions on that, but I was just curious about others exoerience!

Thanks all!!!

Sarah, I waited a few months before I started drinking beer again. I thought it best not to add to the wonkiness, especially since my taste was off so badly (and I still can't taste sugars). If you've got your doctor's okay, that would seem to me to be all the information you need, other than of course to be moderate.

Agree with Tod. If you are not wonky and a small glass of wine to celebrate sounds good, go for it.
I wouldn't go over one glass though. :P

wonky head is right. I had one beer about 12 weeks post op and felt really drunk and dizzy. I would wait a while
2.5cm x2.0cm cerebellapontine angle meningioma. 100% removal 2/2009. House Ear Institute. Dr Brackmann and Dr. Schwartz. SSD right ear. No balance problems except when really tired, no headaches. Transear hearing aide made no difference, tried it for 4 months.

Take it slow and see how you feel.  I know my first post-op drink hit me a little harder than usual, but it's not like I wound up dancing around the room with a lampshade on my head or anything.   ;D

If the doc says it's ok - then bottoms up!   ;)

I occasionally have a beer, but feel almost nothing from it.  And, besides, with my taste still messed up, it doesn't taste very good either.  I'm saving a fortune on beer! ;D
