As a veteran of 26 FSR sessions (that were very effective) I can say that it shouldn't be too arduous.  Well, it wasn't in my case.  I drove to and from each session - a 60-mile round trip - and never experienced any negative side-effects.  I trust you'll have an equally positive FSR experience with similar (good) results.

Thanks for the support my friends.  The first four sessions have gone pretty easily. My neurosurgeon was there for the first session and made a point of spending a few minutes with me afterwards.

The whole process is awfully convenient for me. Perhaps too convenient as I don't have much time to process things. After the first appointment, which my wife accompanied me to, the rest have been scheduled weekdays at 10 am.  It is about a leisurely 10 minute walk from my office. So I leave just after 9:30, check in about 9:45 and am called back before 10. It takes a couple minutes to lay down on the table and get mask fastened in place and to get comfortable. By 10:15 I am up and putting my glasses and BAHA back on. I stop and get a cup of coffee in the main hospital  and I am back at the office shortly after 10:30.

I am feeling pretty tired at this point, but I started the week tired and have been fighting some kind of low-level infection all week. That has been the only real downside. Hopefully that will pass soon.

Four down, 24 sessions to go.

Tod, thank you so much for your update, and I am happy to hear that is almost too easy for you! Do you go 28 days in a row, weekends also? Hope you can rest big-time this weekend.

I am W & W, and at the symposium was advised by 3 out of 4 docs to do FSR, the same 28 day timeframe. Next MRI in March, so we will see.

Anyway, good luck to you, will be sending good vibes, and I hope that EASY continues to be the describing word for this experience for you!

Barb, Yes, I get weekends off. As I understand the theory, if there is at least 18 hours between treatments, the normal tissue can heal itself of any damage done by these low doses. The radiation is of course cumulative in its effects on the tumor, so the weekends off, while providing important down time for the staff and equipment, are probably beneficial for the patient as well.  Of course, I am not a doctor and I could be completely wrong.
