Completed my CK treatments yesterday
« on: May 09, 2012, 10:22:17 am »
It's official, I am now a "Toastie Postie"!!!! :D

Second CK treatment on Monday was a little nerve wracking because my lower jaw kept moving.  I think the mask must have been pressing on a nerve.  I finally ended up clamping my jaws together so tight I thought I would / might have cracked a tooth.  Felt great after the treatment however.

Third / final CK treatment was yesterday.  I woke up yesterday morning very tired and lethargic which ended up making me fall asleep during the procedure.  Went home afterwards to continue my nap.  Went out to dinner last night with a group of friends still felt subdued.

Today I have a mild "let down" feeling, I guess all the adrenalin from the anticipation of the CK procedures is gone.  Went to the gym this morning for two hours, scaled back on the weights I used but increased the reps so it was a good work out.  Was mildly dizzy but worked through it.  Was going to do yard work when I got home but decided maybe that was pushing it so have camped out in front of my computer once again.

Again a big hug and many thanks to all of you for your information, support, prayers, emails, posts etc.  I could not have made it through this without all of you.  :-*

Hugs

Karen

Congratulations, Karen!

Now, that wasn't so bad, was it?   ;)

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Karen

I am so happy for you that it is finally over.  Now you can try to get on with whatever you were doing before the intruder.  My prayer is for you to have none of the side effects that so often come with radiation.

And as far as naps are concerned I think all grown ups should be required to take them, would be a little less stress in the world.

Take Care
Tom

Congratulations, Karen!!

I'm so glad that you're on the opposite side of it now and on the road to having your mind on things other than your AN.  Enjoy spring and summer.  They are always good at keeping an upbeat mood.

No, it wasn't as bad as my vivid imagination thought it would be but it wasn't the most fun I've had lately.  Glad it's over with, I can get back to living my life although it will be a slightly different life now.   ;)

Hi Karen,

I finished my CK at Stanford on 5/11/2012, I hope everything goes well for you. I also did "Treatment Journal" under "Radiation" to help people understand what they may be in for if they chose CK.

Oh, good!  Something new to look forward to - necrosis!   :D  That word just sounds 'bad' but I know it's the best thing that can happen, right?

Yeah, Karen, necrosis is what you want. It is not to be feared in the slightest, but celebrated. And whether it shows up on your MRI or not, it will happen. (Sometimes it occurs in between MRI series and isn't visually apparent on the before and after images.) Your AN is on its way outta here.

Best wishes,
TW
