Two year post-op MRI
« on: July 22, 2012, 12:56:29 am »
Hi
Haven't posted for a long time but drop in and have a read every now and then. I had successful surgery two years ago for a 4cm AN (well, obviously SSD so as successful as could be - no noticeable facial nerve damage or headaches etc).  Going for my first postop MRI tomorrow. I know in the US followup is usually one year post-surgery but I'm in Australia so maybe things done differently here and they were confident they got all of it.

Have had a few fluctuations in tinnitus and sensations over past two years (seem tiredness and stress related) but nothing sustained and have tried not to worry - if I had been really worried about a reoccurence in the past two years could have easily got a referral from my GP. Although got to admit that having something like an AN does make you more vigilant about your health. I guess that comes from realising that all those vague symptoms I ignored for a year or two was actually something fairly serious! Can't live the rest of my life being paranoid though.

Everything going very well and start my new dream job in a weeks time so REALLY hoping that the MRI doesn't show anything! Next appointment with the ENT not until September, but I'll probably ask for a copy of my results before that. They said they would be in contact earlier if there was anything. I'll follow the no news is good news principle!

Thanks for listening and will let you know results

Lamplight ~

Welcome back - and thanks for the (positive) two-year update.  I'm glad to note that you seem to have recovered well with no real issues going forward.  Being a bit anxious about your first post-op MRI scan is perfectly normal but I'm confident that it won't show anything significant.  However, for your peace of mind I would certainly try to get a copy of the MRI results before September.  When you do, please let us know the verdict.  Congratulations on the new job!

Haven't heard anything so will presume there is no bad news and just wait until my appointment with the ENT specialist in September. My GP has copies of the results so if I get curious before September I'll make an appointment.

Keep forgetting to post update....my appointment with the ENT finally rolled around and as expected, it was good news! No residual and no regrowth. The radiologists' report said something like "significant improvement in comparison to pre-operative MRI". Sums it up well I think!
Next MRI in another two years.

Best wishes
