Nate,

No I haven't seen that one and thanks for the link!

Here's another one for you - and the others. You'll need "Realplayer" to view it. It's worth seeing. Here's the link:

Thanks, Crazycat, I think! The video you posted is the kind of surgery I will be having. My surgeon told me he would not shave any hair from my head. Now I can see why. Maybe I'd rather be shaved than have my hair STAPLED out of the way. Man ! I had  no idea.
Now I'm really freaking!  :o

Watching the video didn't bother me.  Reading about all the tools, drill bits etc... on my hospital bill did kind of creep me out......

From what I gathered, they do this endoscopic surgery without severing the balance nerve? That would be cool!Never even heard of this procedure when I was researching my options!

EEWW video # 2 was icky!  After drilling out the IAC what kind of patch did they put there? I'm going to try to find a MF video.

Yeah,

Before my shunt surgery - the first one - I had my girlfriend shave my head. It was tough for me, having hair halfway down my back and being the cool, classic rock musician I am.
When seeing the neurosurgeon afterward, he told me that they preferred to have us not shave our heads before surgery because it could set you up for an infection. They prefer to either shave it themselves in a local area or staple it as you see in the video.
Another interesting fun fact. And I thought I was doing them a favor!

Sefra22: Don't get freaked! Remain calm. You are going to be just fine. You won't know a thing it going on. (This is why I never even asked how they were going to do things before my first surgery.....I didn't want to be more freaked, sometimes ignorance is bliss!)

My neurosurgeon gave me a tape of my own AN surgery. It doesn't show the shaving. incision, or skull piece removal. It starts when they were already in. Maybe when the 2nd surgeron started his work on the nerve?  I have only watched 5 min of it so I am not sure what is on it.  Maybe I will get it out and see more of it.  My husband's knee surgery, my son's knee surgery and my other son's endoscopic appendectomy are also sitting on the shelf. We can have a movie marathon!   Janet

Freaky watching this. Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!   Glad I was asleep.

I found it nice that the one video shows them prep the abdomen for the removal of fat to plug the hole they make in the derum.
Something not mentioned u among us AN patients is the Oh So CUTE DIVIT they put in my gut. The least they could have don;e was a little lipo.  I offered them as much fat as they wanted, even offered to donate some.
Since the surgery, lack of activity and addition of LB"s makes the little divit even more indented and pronounced. Guess it's here to stay too!,  It's kind of like my tatoo

Funny, I got as far as the hair staples and quit  lol  Used to be able to watch medical stuff w/ no problem until they did my brain surgery.  Oops...
After reading about the possibility of complications from skull based and not being able to get me open fast enough to save me I passed!  I'd rather be here and wobbly thank you very much :o)

I watched all of the links. Isn't it wonderful and amazing that techno advances have paved the way for this type of surgery? had to keep reminding myself that I was watching all this through microscopic magnification! Thanks to all who posted the sites.....

I watched the videos and was amazed at the skill involved in such an intricate procedure. Fascinating!I wonder if the cool jazz in the background was there for the viewer or if it was in the OR?
