Relax yourself-take in a Baseball Game
« on: August 26, 2012, 11:52:08 AM »
Whether you are at the very beginning, in the middle of it awaiting treatment, awaiting side effects (like me) of treatment or have many days between your last treatment, YOU NEED TO TAKE A BREAK!

If you are a baseball fan like me, go to a ball game( of course it is extremely helpful if the team you are rooting for wins!) Or do something that will completely take you away from your AN.

Friends,

Take it from a guy who completely wasted a summer (2004) There is a
Thing that I regret in hindsight, it is getting too involved in research!

It was harmful to me in terms of stress and it was harmful to my family!

It remains a time I can never get back! I warn you do not do that to yourseves!

I wish sometimes that I would not have let it get to me in the way that it did but if it is helpful to someone else, I suppose it is a useful learning tool to those of you who will listen!

It remains important to maintain your own mental health!

FOOTBALL SEASON IS HEAR....My wife and I have season tickets to our local college games. Just hope I dont fall down the stadium steps. The balance issue seems to show up at night and if I am walking slow. Hard to walk fast when thousands of fans are elbow to armpit on both sides. The Old Dominion Monarchs are entering their 4th season and all games have been sold out since the first game. One of the most successful college football startups up ever.  9-2, 8-3, and last year 10-3 with an NCAA bid. As mike said, take time to enjoy life while you do your research. Control your situation, dont let it control you.

Football is back and we (Old Dominion Monarchs) are coming on strong. After being down 20-10 to Duquesne at the half the Monarchs of Old Dominion came storming back to win 57, Duquesne 23. Not bad for the 22nd sold out game since the start of a football program. Thank goodness, only the 7th row up and small steps at that. No more walking down over the seats. The only problem is the noise adding to the confusion of trying to hear. Ear plug does wonders.

Jan, blow out for the Irish also. Good job Notre Dame in Dublin.

ND did a great job in Ireland.  New QB looked very promising and lots of the regulars - like Te'o - played very well.

Midshipmen were a class act as always - and the stadium was absolutely beautiful.

Hope the Irish can keep the momentum going.  It's been a while since we've had a winning season  :'(

To all of those who want to know,

The point of this thread I started was to relax and spend a little time away from our shared nightmare, however not meaning to depress you with bad news about a local team (the Mets) performance. On Wednesday I spent the evening at a quite exciting game, for those of you who know baseball, you know the meaning of the phrase "it ain't over until the fat lady sings".......In this case there were no zoftig personalities but the Mets were actually winning until the top of the 9th inning that was it when the pitcher walked somebody then the next guy on the Phillies homered one and we lost the game 3 to 2. Bummer.....but that's not all the next day they played another game which had been washed out by rain on Tuesday.......Miserable score for the Mets 14 to 1. Now, for all that excitement and disappointment who can think of a pesky little AN?  14 runs!!!!

The season for the Mets was over 10 games ago, why must they play so miserably for their fans? Oh well, there is always next season!

I can't wait, not for the next season but for my anniversary of Gamma Knife treatment!

This is my last post about relaxing taking in a game.....what a performance! Sorry!

Come on Mets, sweep the Marlins, Mike needs another reason to celebrate.
Always had a liking for ND, hope they win again.
Back home here in Norfolk, VA, the Old Dominion Monarchs face their toughest fight yet against New Hampshire Wildcats. Another sold out game.

What a game!! Old Dominion 64, New Hampshire 61. ODU was down 41-16 at the half and made it up in the 2nd half. Had to see it to believe it. Lets go ND. 1st possession and the Wolverines had to punt.
Just for Mike, Mets win 4-3 today.

this really hit home for me. it’s so easy to think that constant research and staying “on top of everything” means you’re doing the right thing, but sometimes it just feeds anxiety. taking an actual break- whether it’s a baseball game, a walk, or anything that pulls your mind away — isn’t avoidance, it’s survival. i’ve also learned the hard way that stress steals time you never get back, and it affects the people around you more than you realize. your reminder about mental health is important and honest. thank you for sharing this it’s the kind of perspective people need to hear, especially early on.

I see this is an older thread, but since it had a recent post I figured I would add my 2 cents worth.  I agree you should do something to keep your mind occupied and take a break from the constant research.  But I would also add this: Do it alone or with people that you normally spend a lot of time with.  I say that because for me personally I was getting upset about people always asking how are you doing with the pity look on their face.  It seemed like every single time I managed to put this out of my mind and start to feel a little normal, someone had to bring it up.  I know they were just being genuinely concerned, but the last thing I needed was to be reminded that I had a brain tumor.   So yes go out and do something you enjoy, just do it with someone who isn't going to bring it up.
