Ear fullness after operation
« on: September 17, 2012, 08:25:57 am »
I've read on here many stories from people who have fullness of the ear, I also had this prior to the removal of my acoustic neroma, my question is does anyone still have the fullness feeling after their operation I do and it's beginnin to worry me as it's quite uncomfortable with the full feeling and constant tinnitus.

Thanks for your reply Jane I was hoping the fullness feeling would go, I was told at the time  of my op my tinnitus would probably still be there.  I really struggled with single sided deafnessso 11 weeks ago I had a BAHA fitted and get the processor fitted next week.  Do you still get aching feelings at the back of your ear,

I do have some tenderness at back of ear around incision area but not too bothersome unless I rub it..so I try not too.. :-*,,,but shampooing  can be bothersome..
I have not decided on any hearing device,, I hope you like your BAHA,, had originally thought I would pursue that one ,, but not sure I want it after thinking and reading about other types without attached processor.. I really hope you like it ,, be sure and let us know how it goes,, best of luck with it,, Jane

Hi Jane yes I'll let you know how I get on.  I was given the option of the BAHA or the CROS with the wire going across the back of my neck I tried it for 2 weeks but the wire kept getting in the way.

Hi Jane as promised an update on my BAHA.  I am really pleased with it as I was struggling with my SSD.  It has helped with my balance and I'm sure my tinnitus is less noticeable.  I didn't want the CROS because it meant having an hearing aid in my good ear as well as my deaf ear.  I just clip my BAHA on and off I go.  My husband said since having my BAHA I keep smiling.

Thanks for update PamJ!
Glad you are enjoying it,, I am glad to know it helped with your balance some also, very interesting,,

I have not had demo with either option yet, except quick "headband" demo at a support group meeting of BAHA,, it was ok.

It was my understanding at ENT office last week that there is a Cros that is used only in AN ear and not in the good ear,, that is what I would be interested in, as you said, I don't need or want anything in good ear. So will make appt. soon to try some on,,thanks for your info and best of luck with it! Jane

Just to clarify, the new Cros models do not use a wire. The signal is transmitted wirelessly.
The piece that goes into the good ear is not a hearing aid (unless we are talking about the bi-Cros, for people having bilateral loss). It is used to receive the signal from the SSD ear and send it into the good ear.
I have found the Cros very easy to use, altough it does have its limitations.

GK on April 23rd 2008 for 2.9 cm AN at Toronto Western Hospital. Subsequent MRIs showed darkening initially, then growth. Retrosigmoid surgery on April 26th, 2011 with Drs. Akagami and Westerberg at Vancouver General Hospital. Graduallly lost hearing after GK and now SSD but no other issues.

Hi Suu I've had my Ponto Pro for a week now and to be honest it's only when you asked me if I still had the fullness feeling that I realised I haven't (if that makes sense) I still have my tinnitus but the BAHA has reduced this.  My personal experience with the BAHA is brilliant but I did notice today when I was in Tescos my hearing was really good but when I went in Morrisons it was a bit muffled so I'll keep a note of that to tell my audiologist when  I go back in 3 weeks.    But yes my full feeling has gone until I take the BAHA off then it returns

Thanks PamJ
I was asked if I wanted to go that way with the BAHA and couldn't think straight at the time. Now you've given me some hope that at least something could be changed to maybe ease one of the after effects of being in this not-so-unique-afterall lifestyle  :D
Checking with my doc tomorrow to see what he thinks.
Stay well everyone.
