Dying your hair after an AN opertion.
« on: August 18, 2006, 12:19:33 pm »
I don't know where to put this so i picked here.
I used to dye my hair before i had my first AN removed i had a prelab incistion, so what i wannna know is is it safe to dye my hair again? It's been 2 years since the op, although i just had an emergancy op on the top of my brain to remove a tumour,so it'll be awhile before i dye my hair if i can. Thanks in advance!  ;D

Darn, that was the first question I asked my neurosurgeon when I came out of the morphine uphoria!  He said how important is it to you?  I gave him the dirtiest look I could muster and he said as soon as I had the staples out.  I did it the same day.  The incision area got extremely gray and does not cover with fillers or the best of the best.  I call it the red-headed skunk look.  I can't use a blow dryer, but I'll be darned if I'm gonna have gray hair.  Also, you don't dye your hair you tint it or color it.  You dye eggs and fabric.  Colorist for over thirty years, so I am touchy about wording.  ::)

I dyed/tinted, whatever you want to call it, about 3.5 mos post op when I felt like my incision was healed enough.  Even then I put vaseline over the incision line and kept the dye/tint/peroxide stuff away as much as possible.

It washed off easily enough when I washed the tint out at the end of the dye process.  The warm water and a little gentle scrubbing worked well.
