I obtained a copy of the radiologist report today and will see the radiation oncologist Friday.  The AN appears unchanged in size and no mention of necrosis.  The new wrinkle is mention of a 6mm meningioma.     I am now suspecting NF2 as I have several other small tumors under my skin on my arm and legs.  Or perhaps the radiation caused it, but it does seem awfully soon.  Making my list of questions for Dr Crawford....

Teri, I have several meningiomas in addition to the AN, and one MRI showed an approximate 6mm area that the radiologist called a calcified meningioma, but the neurosurgeon and neuroradiologist are confident it is a blood vessel being seen directly in cross section. In other words, looking directly down the lumen of the vessel in that spot. That may be a possibility for your new finding too. 6mm is about the size of a pencil eraser.
When do you see your neurosurgeon next?

   How old are you and how fast was the AN growing before Tx? I'm NF-2 and have had a meningioma appear, disappear, and reappear again.
   The subcutaneous skin tumors are not what I'd consider suspicious for having NF-2, however. The skin tumors are more common to NF-1, but, I'm unsure if a person with NF-1 can get an AN, however. Highly unlikely to be caused by focused beam radiation to the head.
   Would have to do a web search re NF-1 and an AN.

Nftwoed - 61 years old, not sure how fast growing the AN was, though hearing loss started approx 5 - 6 years ago.  I am not clear about your comment re skin tumors since there seems to be a double negative in your statement: "...not optimistic for not having NF2..." 

Nannybee, I see the radiation oncologist tomorrow and if he doesn't refer me to the neurotologist I plan to contact him for a consultation.

   Sorry about the double negative. I changed the post. Would say NF-2 is in a sense, a double negative, however.

I don't think there are any absolutes with NF2.

Results of visit with the radiation oncologist: AN is stable, which is good.  Not concerned about meningioma, which he will watch. Next follow up in December.  Being referred for genetic counseling.  Sent an email to the ear specialist to see if he wants to view the CD.
