I'm interested on the chances of getting PapilledemaBrain Necrosis, Glioblastoma brain cancer, or Hydrocephalus after radiation treatment?

Since I began researching Acoustic Neuromas in May of 2015, I've found it's clear that doctors can manipulate statistics any way they like, in numerous ways, to sway a particular outcome.

Looking for some clarity....

5/19/2015 - 40% sudden hearing loss + tinnitus right ear

6/26/2015 - AN diagnosed by MRI - 14mm x 7mm + 3mm extension

8/26/2015 - WIDEX "ZEN" hearing aid for my catastrophic tinnitus

12/15/2015: 18mm x 9mm + 9mm extension (5mm AGGRESSIVE GROWTH in 5 months)

3/03/2016:   Gamma Knife - Dr. Sheehan

I believe radiation necrosis is linked to how much brain receives 12Gy or more.
Its a real problem for people that have very large tumours, People that are treated with Whole Brain Radiotherapy and repeat radiosurgery..
I dont believe it is a significant problem at all for AN's
If you have Glioma they will zap your brain as well as the tumour as often there are cancer cells within the brain itself.
The risk of radiation necrosis then becomes much higher.
Radiation Necrosis can be picked up on the follow up MRI's
Hydrocephalus after radiation is a complication but is directly related to the volume of the AN treated with radiation.
I believe AN's smaller than 2cm this would be a very rare occurrence if at all..

As for Malignant Transformation... over 50% of malignant transformations have occurred in people with NF2
Less than 5% of people with AN's have NF2. There is also a theory that people that get malignant transformation may have a predisposition to cancer.
If you have this you could be at higher risk, if you dont the risk maybe lower again..

10x5x5mm AN
Sudden Partial hearing loss 5/28/10
Diagnosed 7/4/10
CK 7/27/10
2/21/11 Swelling 13x6x7mm
10/16/11 Hearing returned, balance improved. Feel totally back to normal most days
3/1/12 Sudden Hearing loss, steroids, hearing back.

Mcrue
How are you doing? You haven't posted in a few days.
Let us know you're ok.

I'm doing fairly well all things considered. I responded to your PM.

Many thanks.

Thank you PaulW for the clarifications. I'll be sure to keep a look out for these issues on my next MRI in September.

I'm currently studying:  optic nerve papilledema
