Red Eye after MRI?
« on: October 30, 2006, 01:21:46 pm »
So, last Wednesday I went in for my 6-month MRI. Since my surgery I've had dry-eye which I control with Refresh Celuvisc drops. I put drops in before I went in for my MRI, when I got out of the machine, my eye was extremely red. I chalked it up to being in the machine for 45 minutes and then used additional drops throught the day. The next few days my eye was extremely red and a little puffy. Very weird. Yesterday it started getting better and today most of the redness is gone again. Can MRI's have any weird effects on your eyes like that?

Also, and this is a weird one, but my skin and the left (tumor) side of my face is always really dry, especially under my eyebrow. Very annoying. Lotion doesn't seem to help, but it's always red and dry. Anyone else have this?

Thanks.

Hi Scott - I would think if you can't close the eyelid all the way and laying down for the MRI, maybe the light was bothering your eye.  My right eye is always puffy - upper lid where the gold is - the opthamologist said no infection, etc., & people don't reject gold, so he had me doing hot (I mean HOT) packs 4 x per day for 15 minutes - it worked in decreasing the swelling. (if I don't do it the swelling comes back).  Is your eye still red? - I use eye drops for redness after showering (but this happened even before the surg.).  I use Refresh PM lubricant all day long (maybe 5 x/day).  Goodluck, Nancy

Thanks Nancy.

I am able to close my eye, so i do not have a gold weight ... and I have them place a cloth over my eyes so that I can't see how confined I am in the MRI machine, so I really don't know what causes all of the redness. I think about 85% of the redness is gone now. Just a little bloodshot looking still. I have no clue why my eye reacted so badly to the MRI.

Hi Scott - The skin on the AN side of my face is very dry and itchy since surgery, especially around the eyebrow area. My skin has always been somewhat oily, but not on AN anymore. I had chalked it up to facial nerve trauma and paralysis. I also stopped producing ear wax on the AN side. Weird!

Hi Scott,

The timing of the MRI and the red eye may just be coincidental.  I've noticed that my eye has been more red than usual lately.  I'm thinking that there may be something in the air.  I've had to add drops more frequently because of it.

Did you get the results from your MRI?
