Give Me A Minute
« on: December 16, 2006, 05:51:26 pm »

                                                                                      GIVE ME A MINUTE

                                                            Give me a minute
                                                              so I can hear
                                                               the words you say
over the tinnitus in my ear

                                                             Give me a minute
                                                               so I can see
                                                                the grace and balance
                                                               hiding inside of me

                                                              Give me a minute
                                                                so I can find
                                                                  the beautiful face
                                                                 I left behind.

                                          Please.....
                                                        just.....
                                                               Give me a minute.....

Went to the bank, the mall, then the car repair I've been going to for 10 years... hadn't been there since before the surgery...No one recognized me....

I am having coffee with an AN friend tomorrow.  She has facial paralysis.  She has made me realize something:

The most beautiful people in the world have crooked smiles.

Hi Kathy,

Can you ask her what she plans on doing about it ????   How long has she had facial paralysis >>

I'll have a repeat EMG in Jan., So , if more nerve fibers are firing... It'll be a 'watch & wait' ( kinda ass-backward as it's post op !!  lol)
I hear you Kathy,  it's just so hard sometimes girlfriend....

My friend Nancy:

She had surgery in mid '05 (they had to sever her facial nerve to get the tumor out-her tumor was huge).  She had hypoglossal-facial nerve anastamosis done in July.  Her surgeon said it will take at least 6 months to know if the surgery worked.

Hang in there Nancy,  Kathy

I know how you feel. I have it on the left side. People are always looking at me. Especially kids. It makes me sad when people who i have known for years don't recognize me. I have put on alot of weight during this hole AN process to so that didn't help. Anywho keep your smilin its all good!  ;)

Your sad account has left me feeling very humble. You have an obvious inner beauty and strength of character that will eventually see you through this low period...and you will 'get by with a little help from your AN friends'!

Derek
Residing UK. In 'watch & wait' since diagnosis in March 2002 with right side AN. Initially sized at 2.5cm and now self reduced to 1.3cm.
All symptoms have abated except impaired hearing on affected side which is not a problem for me.

Nancy,
What a poignant poem.  My heart goes out to you.   There is an inner beauty and strenght in you which transpires thru your words. Remember, you have a lot of friends here who think your smile is beautiful just like your soul.

Nancy:

O.K.,  I'll admit it.  Your poem brought tears to my eyes.  Thank you for both the poem and for sharing your plucky attitude with us.

Folks like you are not only inspirational to those in similar AN post-op situations but you help those of us who had fewer post-op complications to really appreciate our blessings.  I wish you all the best in the weeks to come and I'll pray for your total recovery.

Merry Christmas to you.  :)

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Thank-you everyone again, for all your support.

Well, today's a much better day...I was feeling so peaceful all day, even at work, till....
I keep forgetting to get discharge info, I spilt water & forgot to wipe it up.....so

While I  finally WAS wiping up the water, a coworker was copying, I said to her:
" My memory is so bad today, I keep forgetting things "
co-worker: "That's okay, you're entitled.."
I said "damn straight, I'm going to milk this TUNA for all it's worth !!!" (of course I meant 'tumor')

We laughed for about 5 minutes !!!!   .........

LIFE DOES GO ON !!!!!!!  (if only I can get my mouth to work right !!!!   lol)

Thank you all again    XOXOXOXO    Nancy
