Grandma's Cures
« on: January 21, 2007, 04:33:31 pm »
Hi Gang:

I just received a email full of "Grandma's Cures".  The first one on the list was Gatorade for a headache.

It said to drink two glasses of Gatorade and headache pain will be gone almost immediately.

Too good to be true?  Probably, but I thought it was worth posting for sufferers that have tried everything.  Why not try one more thing?

Lorenzo,

Do fried scorpions work since I had that one time in Beijing?  They were not too bad.  Tasted like chips.  I take that crickets taste the same.  My tinnitus is bothering me lately.  I will eat anything to rid of that cricket in my ear!!!  ;)

cure all for what ails you... a great, hot, bowl of chicken soup! Medically proven effective and heck, if Grandma made it, even better!

(had not heard about the Gatorade! Keep it constantly on hand for other medical issues I have.. will have to try it out!)

I had chicken soup today both for lunch and dinner (I made a big pot of it Saturday) and it did make me feel better but has since worn off.  I hope I'm not getting anything more than a cold!  My throat feels like its closing and I have those dry coughs which makes the headaches worse!  I can't get warm no matter what I do!  I tried the gatorade thing but didn't notice any difference (except that I had to pee)!  Brucifer, I was going to make chicken and dumplins today but the soup was easier because it was already made and just needed heat.  Maybe I'll make the dumplins tomorrow (gonna save some to fling at Lorenzo  :-X).  Gatorade does help after you've had a stomach virus  tho! ;)

Chicken soup is comfort food, especially with bits of chicken in it and some fine pasta! Oh la la, it was gooooooooood... Ate the chicken roasted first, then kept half of it for other uses, made broth out fo the carcass, and now have still some left.
LEt me know when you fling the dumplings, I'll get ready with the pot to catch them!
Ciao, ye soup lovers

Well, the organic ones are best, and those are available in your nearest field, in season. Of course, seasonality is important, so frozen ones do not have the same effect. They go mushy when defrosted, creating no sound.
As for cooking, well, depends on the type of tinnitus. Boiling is for bubbling sounds, simmering in tomato sauce might be good for slightly less intrusive sounds, raw is for cases of intermittent crunching noises, and sauteed is for sizzling or rustling leaves types of sounds. Now, of course I can't guarantee the efectiveness of the cure, but it sure helps taking your mind of the tinnitus for a while!

Oh, I forgot to mention the second raw version: eat them while still alive, that way you get the crunch and the chirping at the same time, that's for the two-tone tinnitus.

I am so going permanently deaf if I have to hear about raw sushi-style crickets and cricket cook offs!

Back to your regularly scheduled Headache/Grandma's Cure program! :D
