transear Insurance coverage
« on: June 28, 2007, 05:01:39 pm »
My insurance claim for the transear has been denied.
My insurance plan does not pay for hearing aids.
Does anyone have any input regarding resubmiting the claim?
If I must pay out of pocket, $2800, I will but I would like to get it covered.
Thanks!
Mary

Most do not cover hearing Aids.
I did it like this.

Had my operation-severed my vestibular never (balance and hearing)
Told my CM that I wanted the Transear, but that the BAHA might be a consideration.
She took it to a Benefit LEvel Exception Doc who said Transear (of course 3200 vompared to 60 grand baha operation)

The key is how the audiologist codes it. My Audiologist worked hand in hand with my insurance case manager.
It was coded as a BONE conduction prosthetic for Balance.
INsurance said they would cover it.

I put it on my Credit Card.
Audiologist submitted claim to Premera Blue Cross Heritage Plus 1 plan.

DENIED.

I called my CM, she said do not worry, it was CODED WRONG, was coded as a HEARING AID.
Audiologist submitted claim again with new coding..

check to be sent back to audiologist, then they send check back to me.
Should be any day now... BETTER BE@!

They key is to have a case Manager Advocate for you within your plan.
I am fortunate to have a good plan that even covered my Endoscopic surgery at SBI in LA.
5cm left AN from IAC to cerebellum/brainstem.
Zapped out by Shahinian @ SBI over the course of 6.5 hrs on Monday 11/27 2006.
