Planning get together for western Washingtonians and Oregonians
« on: October 07, 2007, 11:48:39 am »
This is a new thread for those of us in western WA and OR to plan a get together, probably in Olympia WA if folks agree that that's a good central meeting place?

How about Saturday afternoon, November 17th?  or ...?

Anyone familiar with restaurants in Olympia?  I'm thinking that one with a separate room we could reserve would be nice.  There's a Chinese restaurant along Cooper Pt. Road, actually lots of restaurants in that area.

Chime in .... can't wait; this will be fun.

1.5 cm AN diagnosed June 2007.   GammaKnife July 19, 2007 at Univ. of Washington/Harborview GK Center, Drs. Rockhill, Rostomily.
After yearly MRIs for 5 years, it hadn't died. So I'm now leaning strongly toward surgery.

Works for me. I have no idea about restaurants in Olympia, all I have ever seen is the big Miller brewery while passing by on the freeway.  :D  I think a Saturday afternoon is the best time, and which weekend doesn't make much difference to me. Steve

I'm about 45 minutes from Oly town and I'm in!!!! Give me the day that works best for most people, (weekend afternoon works best for me)  time of day that works and when  ( what timeframe are you looking at, end of Oct/early November, mid Nov?) and I'll see what I can come up with  Just give me a window to work with and I'll get on it  Given our early jump on cold weather I'm guessing by the end of Oct would work best for those traveling a ways, A couple of possibilities have crossed my mind all ready as to where to meet.  This will be fun.

So first order would be to set a day and time and we'll go from there. After that we'll figure out how many people.

The above post was from the other thread.  I know Olympia fairly well and will work on a place for the 17th of Nov.  Any particular choice of restuarant food?   I'll post more in a couple of days.

I am just past the 6 week post op point ... and think the car ride to Olympia (from Portland) will still be too much for me by that date. I am still a in the "wonky head" mode and certainly not driving yet (you don't want me on the road!)

... but hey I am into future get togethers once I get used to this SSD deaf stuff...

It would be great to connect with other AN folks. We are special... what is the stat "one in a 100 thousand" or something  ;)...must be that ringing in the ear that is calling us together...
 ;D

Keep moving forward

Hmm, maybe a car pool from Portland is in order here, I am still driving okay, though my car is getting pretty tired. its a '93 Sentra, 225K miles, poor thing, why don't I let it retire in peace already? Maybe we could rent a minivan or something.

Steve,

You are such a sweetie to think of this.

Personally I am just not sure how 'well' I will actually be by then. Currently just the 30 minute drive (as a passenger) to OHSU and back home again just knocks me out completely for the day ( and sometimes  :-\ the day after that...)

But maybe you might get a van load of more other people who live South of Olympia. "Jackie" lives in our area ... and I bet there are others...

Jackie mentioned to me that there is an AN group that meets at St. Vincent's (Portland OR) quarterly ... this was news to me.

I hope to eventually meet the WA / OR other Pacific Northwesterners

Hi all,
Dana thanks for starting the  new thread for a get together.  I live in Longview (about 50 miles north of Portland).  A Saturday afternoon is a good time as most people could get there in the afternoon without having to get up too early.   I'm driving on the freeway fine now.   Maybe we should find out who is interested and where they are from so we can make it as central a location as possible.  Olympic works for me... or???

So everyone :   What date works for you?    Nov. 3rd,   or   Nov. 17th  or  ?
Where would you be coming from  (so we can figure out the closest middle point for the majority of people if Olympia is too far for most)

My info:            Either date works for me,    I would be coming from Longview, and I can drive as far north as Tacoma,WA

I'm not sure but I might be off on the 3rd. Tomorrow (Tuesday) is my dad's birthday and alsomy day off. He died in August last year. I think I'll make a trip up to the Lucky Eagle casino in the morning. Maybe some breakfast and slot machines. I think a little mindless entertainment is wahat I want.

November 17th works great for me, not sure about the 3rd.  Definitely not the 10th.  I will most likely bring one of my "chauffers".  4cm, I know how you feel, the last weekend in October last year is when I had my first real car ride over to the coast 4 months post-op, and I worried about it too.  worked out OK, but was hard on me still.

Sue, would love to see you again!  Hope you can make it!

Patti,
I would love to see you this summer.  Let me know when you are going to be around and we will have a great visit.  Who knows,  your dad may not live to far from me.... especially since it only takes about 15 minutes to drive from one end of town to the other  ;D
