Scheduled for Cyberknife--Georgetown University
« on: October 23, 2007, 02:01:03 pm »
Hey all:
I've finally been scheduled for CK treatment starting Nov. 5, 2007.  I had the treatment planning CK on Oct 1.  After waiting three weeks, I called to see if they were ready to schedule me and they could... you know, waiting is no fun.

Anyhow, I believe they will treat me with 5 fractions (5 Gy each) spaced at 24-hours.  Dr. Jean & Dr. Sean Collins are my docs.

I'm looking forward to getting this behind me, although I am concerned how I may react to the CK & tumor swelling (I think the following 3 months will tell for the most part).
Just thought I'd let everyone know what's up.

I also have a 1.9cm and considering CK. Good luck, I will be thinking of you. Let us know how it goes and if you have any post-op problems. I understand that 5 treatments is about the norm.

I had my CK about 5 weeks ago, 3 days of 6 Gy each. I think 5 vs 3 depends on the size. The actual treatment was no problem, they gave me a steroid after each one, but just for those three days. I have not had any remarkable developments so far. The plugged ear feeling still comes and goes, and every now and then it gets stronger, but then it fades away again. Hearing is stable so far. I do feel much better, by the way, I don't know if it is psychological or a real effect, but I feel mentally sharper and much more at ease.

Best wishes for the 5th.

Steve

Detlef,
Congratulations on getting things finalized.  You'll be done before you know it.

One thing I noticed during my treatment there was that I'd get a whiff of ozone every now and then.  Not sure if that's a common CK experience or not, or I just have a sensitive nose.  Anyway, they told me it's just a byproduct of the accelerator and no cause for alarm.  Just thought I'd let you know.

Good luck,
Jay
